President Barack Obama reminisced about the conspiracy theories surrounding his birth certificate during a speech at the National Action Network convention in New York City Friday afternoon. Obama referenced the doubts about his citizenship that led him to release a copy of his birth certificate in 2011, while criticizing voter I.D. laws that require people to present documentation like passports and birth certificates to vote.

"Just to be clear, I know where my birth certificate is," he added.

Obama then began to laugh.

"You remember that? That was crazy," said Obama. "Haven't thought about that in a while."

Obama's speech focused on voting rights. He cited a "recent effort to restrict the vote" that he said was "led" by the Republican Party.

"Not only is it ultimately bad politics, I believe it ultimately harms the entire country," he said.

Obama said the "right to vote is threatened today in a way it has not been" since the passage of the Voting Rights Act, and he called on Congress to update that legislation.

The White House released the long-form version of the president’s birth certificate in April of 2011 in response to questions on whether he was born in the U.S.

Weeks later, Trump declared the White House produced inauthentic documentation and claimed that the birth certificate was fake, despite the fact that the document clearly states that Obama was born at 7:24 p.m. on Aug. 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The document was also signed by the delivery doctor and Obama’s mother, Stanley Ann Dunham Obama.

Obama's college records are "sealed" for the same reason that every person in the United States education records are not pubic. It's called FERPA and has been the law since 1974. If Obama registered as a "foreign student" he would have had to been issued an F-1 visa by the U.S. State Dept. That's FOIA-able information. Why don't you write away for it, and report back on what you recieve. As another poster pointed out, the Federal Education Records Protection Act (FERPA) forbids disclosing any student record (minors are exempted with respect to their parents) except under very specific circumstances. But who receives a visa to enter the U.S. is publically available.

If he was on an F-1 visa, (an absurd idea, but I'll show you where your and your types' claims lead) then he would have been ineligible for any type of financial aid (our government doesn't assist foreigners in paying for school) and he would not have been given any special consideration under any federal set aside requirement -- "affirmative action" -- because, again, the government doesn't do that for foreign students.

So, take your tea party fabricated choice. Affirmative action Pell grant entitled American, or foreigner getting into Columbia and Harvard solely on merit.

Also, your knowledge of how citizenship "works" indicates you couldn't past the one given to foreigners hoping to become naturalized Americans.

1) Moving to another country doesn't automatically bestow that country's citizenship on you or cause you to automatically forfeit the one you have. If it did, then all of the illegals you complain so loudly about (and hire at the 7-11 as cash only day labor) would now be citizens, because they managed to get into the country. And Ted Cruz would not have to file a CIT 0302, Application to Renounce Canadian Citizenship -- something he has acknowledged he needs to do and still hasn't.

2) Obama lived in Indonesia from the time he was six until his mother set him back to live with his grandparents in Hawaii at the age of 10. Overlooking the fact that minors cannot affect their own citizenship status until they reach the country's age of majority (typically 18), it takes years to obtain citizenship, even when sponsored by an adoptive parent, which Soetoro never was. The 10 year old Barack would have had four.
