Ever notice how you're pulling an offensive distaste to modern rap music, while you love your 70s/80s rock and Meade Skelton? Well, look at yourself.
Back in the day, your oldies-loving parents and their friends would be barking at your music taste, saying it's a bad influence and all that.
Well, these days you're sitting at your basement PC and typing "nog" this, "N-word" that, all to criticize the next generation's hit music which people of all ethnicities enjoy. Yes, sure, you call this "'hood crime-inducing music", but doesn't matter. We've got a great rhythm and flow in each of our songs, which makes us stop what we're doing and just rock on. It's quite amazing.

Rap was a heavensend for savage criminal pimps and drug peddlers who otherwise would have would up dead or in jail.

This is for the more gangsta-oriented rappers. Most of the rappers today, eh, maybe they just end up in the slammer for a little bit, but nothing much.

It seems like rap started getting a larger slice of attention in the late 80's to early 90's. Although it has become the kind of de facto "pop music" (applying a liberal definition of the word music), most other forms have fortunately not gone away. Rock music in most of its genres is still around albeit with fewer new artists. I didn't mind Parliament Funkadelic type rap, and of course Tom Tom Club.

I really don't even consider rap to be music, but rather a form of entertainment.

most rap is pretty stupid really. non of the "band" members can play any instruments or write any music (lyrics aint music folks). some dude just runs a computer program for the "music". every song is the same desperate attempt to convince you how cool they are. sorry, not buying it.
