Obama

Why is everyone making such a big deal about Obama? One, if we dont emphisize on color so much then why are we making such a big deal about a black president. I guarantee that if McCain won, it would have been just another day. Also this party is goign to cost $45 million dollars. If Obama is such a great president then why would he waste all of this money just to "welcome" him given what a shitty shape our economy is in. Dont get me wrong, I dont have anything against him but the whole thing is so damn overrated.

It's historic. And he has America pumped up. That's a good thing. Now we will just all wait and see what he will do.

While I think the whole thing has gotten a bit excessive, he is the first President who isn't an old or middle-aged white guy in the entire history of the country. I think it is a celebration of the fact that the country really does represent "The American Dream," regardless of what you think of Obama's politics.

As for the cost of the celebration, much of that is being paid for with private donor dollars. As a resident of the DC Metro Area, I have no problem with New Yorkers, Californians, Minnesotans, etc, sending their money to us. It represents that "free market" stuff you clueless Republicans always bitch and moan about.

Don't forget that the $45 million is money being SPENT, and a lot of it is being spent on the service sector -- bus drivers, caterers, construction, hotels, etc.

That's much better than the $350 billion handed over to the people who created the financial mess we're in. Very little of which has been spent.

I don't care if Obama can shit golden cupcakes with rainbow sprinkles, there's no reason people should be this worked up about it.

The inauguration is going to be the same circus that the election was, and we dare to call ourselves an enlightened and progressive culture? Everyone's sitting around masturbating and patting each other on the back (probably with the same hand) about a half-black man getting elected president. WHOOPITY DOO.

For anybody that would like to point out that places like the UK have never elected a black man for prime minister, allow me to preemptively retort by saying, "Fuck you."

MrMephisto, it's not the cupcakes or the sprinkles... it's the frosting he shits that is so divine. A normal person would march into a hopeless battle for that stuff.

I have never had a problem with color of any sort. I just want him to work hard and get shit moving again. This disgusting idolatry going on shows a vapid lack of any independant thinking at all. The tattoo parlors in DC are offering Tats of him for criminy sake!! Some people need to grow up I think. Oh well , off of my soapbox!

Listen..with all the negative images the black communtiy has influencing their youth...let's all jst relax, take a deep breath and enjoy a positive image...for as long as we can. The real world will come crashing in around Obama and us quick enough...enjoy a good time when you can.

And except for the crowd associated with this inauguration..I dont see any excesses above and beyond previous inaugurations. I remember when Reagan was inaugurated driving by the Lincoln Memorial and seeing it encircled by a series of sky search lights...it looked right out of Nazi germany..these pillars of light. So..all you short sighted folks..get over yous suffering selves..and smile.

I have to admit that I didn't really get the uproar over the first black president. And being a McCain supporter, it was hard to watch knowing that millions of people voted for him purely because of his color. Then I saw a young black woman in an interview where she described her election night experience. Her three year old was sleeping and she went into his room, sat on his bed and just cried to herself over what this meant for him. As a mom, I hope that every child grows up believing they are equal and their opportunities are endless. That said, I still want them to have to work for it and I want them to be in America legally.

Please, President Obama, make me want to vote for you in 4 years!

There are few times when you can anticipate history is going to happen. Usually, it just happens and you spend the next few weeks processing what the event really meant (9/11, Katrina).

Obama, the first black President, getting inaugurated is an anticipated historic happening. Like the moon landing or VE Day, everyone knows it is going to happen and everyone wants to make an effort to remember it so they can tell their children and grandchildren about this day.

Don't worry. Within six months we will be back to the carping and bitching that has defined DC since its start. Enjoy the positive vibe while you can. It won't last forever.

And, I'm really sick of black people saying how it's about time that "one of theirs" got elected president. I've got more in common with Obama than the wannabe thugs and fat welfare cows that think this is a great and positive step for their 4 illegitimate children.

Few months ago I was standing at the gas station and one of the guys pumping gas was talking to his friend about declining gas prices. The other goes " Yeah, thank Obama". Are you fucking kidding me? He has nothing to do with gas prices, NOTHING. All I am saying is, he better not drop the ball or all shit is going to hit the fan.

god forbid people feel good about themselves...we all take pride in what we perceive to be the progress of one of "us". Every nationality has such people..such moments in history..and you feel the need to take it away from blacks! My question is why? Are you of the same bitter ilk that thinks Obama should should proclaim himself white because he was raised by a white mother? For 500 years one drop of indian made you indian..one drop of black made you black....are white people so short of heroes that we need to steal Obama as our own? I dont!

Are you kidding me? If you didnt want for Obama you were pursued as racist but god forbid one black votes for McCain. I thought we were all blind to the color? If we are then why did more blacks went out and voted then during any other election. I though the election was supposed to be to pick the better leader to lead the nation but instead this turned into a race circus.

I was speaking more about the willfully ignorant and uneducated trying to say he's "one of theirs", but you can make it about race if you want to.

The blacks you are all mentioning are members of the generation that had Al Sharpton whispering in their ears. We can only hope that the rantings of Sharpton / Rev Wright types will now be marginalized. I hope this will usher in a new generation of black children who have an abundance of honorable black men and women to emulate. Bill Cosby is dead on when he preaches to black families about accepting responsibility for your life and getting off the victim band wagon.

What were some of the lines in that oral atrocity?

"Someone is stitching a hem,
Someone is patching a tire,
A teacher is saying, 'you may begin now'
Something about birds and trees"

Super.

All that aside, I will admit that I liked his speech. If he can get everyone to stop bitching and take some responsibility, maybe things will improve. I do think he should have left race completely out of it.

Time to go back to giving a shit what Lindsay Lohan does.

I really don't care for most poetry, especially when read by the author who wrote it. I don't care for someone taking a literary dump in the middle of the stage and then expecting me to act like it smells like roses.

I just think most poetry is self-indulgent claptrap. If you work on a dock and write poetry with a bunch of metaphors about penises and vaginas, they throw a fucking medal at you when you are 70. Most of it is crap.

Actually, I think those lights were after the inauguration, and were a celebration of the release of the hostages. I think Ross Perot or some other wealthy person paid for them, too.
