Question: A family member is about to inherit some property over in Loudoun County.

A family member is about to inherit some property over in Loudoun County.
The problem is last summer he got married.
There is a good chance the marriage will eventually fail.
Is there anything that can be done beforehand to make sure the bimbo does not end up getting half of this property if they eventually end up getting divorced?
If something can be done can it be done secretly without the bimbo finding out about it?

Your friend better get some solid advice -- and not advice from this forum. Possibly putting the property into a trust would prevent the wife from getting 1/2 of the property or 1/2 from the proceeds of a sale.

I'm not a lawyer, but your friend better consult one to see what is best. This should be done ASAP!

He needs to consult a lawyer but in Virginia, inheritances are considered separate property versus marital property.

rights of women in law go back 2000+ yrs, and were as strong then as now (hillary is full of crap and helping judges dodge poor decisioning)

-----------------------
the historically interesting fact is that many wars erupted by family feuds. not just feudalism (money land) but wars erupting between families over failed marriages. marriage laws and courts were deemed necessary - there were just too many wars.

-----------------------
today's VA law clearly mostly focuses on protecting the child's rights to not be a victim of a failed marriage

however if one goes into Black's law there is much more to consider.

monetary abuse is one. and VA law i beleive is "half" (very roughly speaking, since "mental state" "verbal abuse" and "marital value" are being used in judgements, i'm sure, i've seen)

if you can avoid lawyers and file downloaded legal forms you might save allot of money. a lengthy lawsuit taking their advice will cost more than the land.

a real advizer would takl about how to cheat income taxes into untaxable gov lay aways available only to insiders. but that's not legal per say

however most of us are looking for them to put them in prison because they cheat, the few remaining are trying to hide them
