Los Angeles - 4.4 Earthquake

I guess California might get a chance to secede from the rest of the U.S. after all.

That would certainly take a big bite out of illegal immigration into the US wouldn't it?

If you had read the article, you'd understand that the 4.4 might be just the beginning.

And might not. Earthquake prediction is less reliable than climatology.

Not only would it take a bite out of illegal immigration, it would also take a very large bite out of our GDP, about 13%.

California contributes the largest portion to our GDP of any state.

So you're saying it's a fair trade. I can live with that.

4.4 a few weeks ago. 5.1 early this morning. A pattern of the earthquakes building up in magnitude is starting to be established.

Hmm... two data points excellent.

Using my grade school math I can now safely predict a 6.0 in two weeks, in two more weeks 7.0, in two more weeks 8.0 and in another two weeks 9.0 and then in two more weeks California slides into the ocean.

Is anyone using Google Person Finder?

http://google.org/personfinder/global/home.html

What is Google Person Finder?
Google Person Finder is a web application that allows individuals to post and search for the status of relatives or friends affected by a disaster. The program also lets press agencies, non-governmental agencies and others contribute to the database and receive updates by using the Person Finder API based on the PFIF open standard. In addition, websites can choose to embed Google Person Finder as a gadget on their own pages. Google Person Finder is open source software meaning that any developer can create their own instance of Google Person Finder after a disaster. Person Finder runs on the Google App Engine platform, and it has been launched in over 40 languages. We do our best to make sure it’s available in the most commonly spoken languages in disaster prone countries.

Tell me you aren't really that dense.

If California were to become an "island" in that it split away from the US.....and then seceded from the union.........anyone entering California would no longer be entering the US.

That is not how plate tectonics works. Southern Ca is actually sliding up the San Andrea fault. Saying it will fall into the ocean or split is a pure sign of a moron.

Ya know, Yellow could turn into one super duper monsterous GIGANTIC active volcano
and it will truley spew hell on Earth. Its a fact, look it up. https://www.google.com/#q=yellowstone+is+really+a+super+volcano

And you know what else, I dont give one fuck. I am ready to go.
From war to greed to prison to the selfish human brain. We suck.

Humans have failed. We have had 2000 years to get it right and we cant get it right. Tonight 6 million Americans are locked in prison for a varity of things from getting high to nightmarish deeds, but still we are fuck ups. 6 million people in prison, that is on ALL of us a species.

Then you consider the war machine and death racket called the military. Built to kill other humans. Trillions of Dollars spent by every government figuring out way to kill out own species on our planet. "Defense" department? COME ON!!!! Call it what it is "THE DEPARTMENT OF WAR" and war is a racket. We are in Iraq for oil and in Afghanstan for the heroin. There is aheorin epidemic going on right now in Amercia fueled by Afgahn heroin, and our troops are protecting the heroin crop. It is full of shit that it is hrd to think about.

2000 years and we cant figure out how to get along?
Fuck us humans. We blew it, we are a failed test. I admit it.

Oklahoma had a 3.8 quake on Saturday. Yahoo news has an article on the 'quake and in the article, it points out that oil and gas drilling is suspected as the cause for the quake.

These people are drooling all over themselves to link any world issue to the environment at this point. It must be nice to take 10 minutes to write a news article and weave in some B.S. about oil and gas exploration causing such a quake. The madness will never stop, I see.

The question remains ... how long until we have another 'quake in Virginia? It seems that they're moving across the U.S. and headed our way. California -> Yellowstone -> Oklahoma -> Next?

(if as they said the earth could fall down and pressurize the caldera downward, about how much extra (pot. destructive) energy would be added (not incl. the typical force of dissolved gasses exploding out of the depressurized or impacted magma ?)

guess what ? time is better spent mining and farming and safe buildings to be well prepared for earthquake , than having gov workers spend shitloads of money predicting them

who didn't know that ? the scientists did. so they are outside of feduciary duty.

Ohio is appearing to take a stand against fracking. They want it to stop before their state gets split in half by an earthquake.

No. This "Earthquake" thread is evolving. When I started this, I never imagined we'd see so many earthquakes. I figured it was best just to keep this going under one thread as opposed to starting a new one each time.

Also, keep in mind, it's projected that Turkey will experience the *big* one within the next decade or so and will make all previous ones they've experienced look like child's play.

Frack on, brother. Frack on.

Did you know that the Earth is seismically active? Can you explain the quakes in the 1800's? Is the result of fracking echoing down the time stream?

I wish this was the 1950's when Wally and the Beaver never had to deal with earthquakes but they didn't exist.
