EDITORIAL: Delmarva travel warning

Travel warning for tourists and other travelers driving in the Delmarva Peninsula area — Don't stay behind flatbed trucks carrying chickens. Delmarva, a coastal area that includes parts of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia, is a fox's paradise, with one of the highest concentration of broiler chickens in the nation. That attracted researchers from Johns Hopkins University, who found that traveling behind chicken trucks results in high levels of bacteria.

In a study just released in the first issue of the Journal of Infection and Public Health, researchers at the university's Bloomberg School of Public Health drove many times with their car windows open along a 17-mile stretch of U.S. 13 connecting chicken farms in Maryland to a processing plant in Accomac, Va. First, they drove when there were no chicken trucks around, and then made 10 trips behind flatbed trucks carrying crates of broiler chickens, collecting bacteria from air samples, door handles and soda cans inside their car. In all of the truck chases, reported the Associated Press, they found high levels of certain bacteria, including some that are resistant to antibiotics.

None of the scientists studying this airborne attack got ill, and it's not clear if the germs can even make one sick (that's the subject of studies down the road, so to speak). The disease-causing bacteria in question are normally spread by food or water, not air.

Still, why do we suspect that someone in state or federal government will want to issue roadside warning signs, “Breathing or touching anything while behind chicken trucks may be hazardous to your health”? And that others will demand pouring federal funds into exhaustive research? But most people will find Delmarva - with its many attractions such as Assateague and Chincoteague wild horse refuges (note to researchers: Study wild horse manure) - a wonderful place that one shouldn't chicken out from visiting, chicken trucks or no chicken trucks.

NO! I am not a bigot, but I have discovered that the majority of gays hate women. I have seen it, been told by gays and read studies. So thus who hate women generally degrade them as the writers of "Sex in the City", etc. Gays are whores and want women to be as well. Why do you think the government was creating a "gay bomb"? Not so the men would just love each other but so they would make women second class citizens instead of equals. A lot like the Romans and Greeks...sick, but true! Think about it now. Look at how women and children are treated in Fairfax County. The highest suicide rate amoung teens, who knows about women?

I don't care for any group that hates my sex, degrades it or tries to push us off the radar. Women need to stand their ground, everything is not as it appears.

Holy cow, are you serious??? Ever heard the term "Fag Hag"? Its a women who has a lot homosexual male friends and just plain ol' loves the gay community though she herself is straight. I don't know who you've been talking to but LOTS of gay guys like girls... they just don't like to stick them. Hell, most gays emulate women all the time, Drag Queens? Come on. And "gays are whores"? W.T.F. Yes, there are promiscuous gays, but there are promiscuous straight people as well.. even *gasp* women. If you aren't a woman and have empathy shut your eyes and think of yourself as a woman...K...got that vision in place? There are more men who hate women then women who hate men, based on abuse stats. The majority of gay men don't like women, they want to be women, that's why they have drag queens and the like. I never said I hated gays but I will not scarifice my sex for that of another. Would you accomendate one sex over what's in the best interest of your own, knowing that other sex is misogynist. You see there's a word for it and it comes from Greek origin, where they had a lot of gays and dysfunctional sex, as we are experiencing now, adult on child, adult on baby, man on man, man on animal and etc. I don't believe in hating, that's why I believe it is wrong for any sex to hate another.

The reality is that there is an abundance of hate in this world now and it'll get worse before it ever gets better so don't talk to me about hating, talk to those who do. Peace!
