Murder At The Super Bowl--chapter 1
Posted by: Mr. Misery ()

I've decided to serialize my novel, "Murder at the Super Bowl" right here on Fairfax Underground. The following is chapter 1. A quick synopsis: Dirk Dickerson is a hard-boiled cop on his last day on the job. A former kicker for the Shreveport Animals, Dickerson was chosen by the commissioner to take the lead in a security detail at the 57th annual Super Bowl. I don't know anything about football, so someone tell me what number Super Bowl we're up to in reality so I can fix that if I have to. Just after kick-off (did I use that right? You call it a 'kick-off', don't you?), a dead body is found in the locker of the quarterback for the Cleveland Generals. After questioning him, it becomes apparent that something bigger than just murder is going on. A shadowy figure identified only as "K" calls Dirk on his cell phone and soon, all hell breaks out. This novel is scientifically designed to appeal to men: it features two time-tested themes--the Die Hard-esque action/adventure and football. Unfortunately, I know nothing about football, so feel free to give me notes where appropriate.

So without further adue, here it is: Chapter One of my forthcoming novel...Murder at the Super Bowl!

Chapter 1: The Hand and the Halftime Show

Dirk Dickerson was getting too old for this shit. As Gary Numan took the stage for the halftime show, a bloody severed hand was cuffed to Dirk’s wrist. “God dammit,” he thought, “it had to happen on my last day.” What was to be an exciting evening at the Super Bowl had turned into a bloodbath underneath the Grossman Center…in the catacombs of pipes and boilers—valves, barrels, and narrow passageways—a little slice of Hell had broken out. In moments, the stage beneath Gary Numan would collapse—a bomb would detonate, releasing toxins and radioactive materials into the crowd, and the detonation of one would trigger the detonation of others—spread about evenly in the bleachers—hidden—enough TNT, uranium, plutonium and toxic gas to wipe out a small nation. Dirk struggled to get to his feet. His suit covered in blood and gray matter, the body underneath him was still leaking fluids—long, dark red pools of blood and who knows what else creeping from beneath the carcass—from the gash in his head, the hole in his side. It was a bad scene.
In all the excitement, Dirk had forgotten the stick jabbed in his side. Wincing, he pulled it out, quick, like a band-aid. A quick spurt of blood. Good thing the bastard hadn’t hit any vital organs. Dirk bandaged it up best he could. Wasting no more time, he started making his way down the corridor. “Jensen,” he said, holding his cell up to his ear and keeping pressure on his side, “we got a problem.”
“I’m way ahead of you, Dirk", Jensen said. “It looks like the device is rigged to go off the moment the keyholder’s heart stops”.
“Keyholder?” Dirk asked, limping forward.
“The man you just killed”. Dirk’s heart sank. After a long silence, Jensen continued. “Dirk…we can still stop this. There’s a second trigger. A contingency. It’s been deactivated since you killed the keyholder, but if you can find it, we might be able to bypass the security protocal.”
“English, Jenson."
“We can bring it back online.” Another pause. “Dirk,” Jensen went on, “We have the floorplans…we can direct you to the trigger. Most likely, it’s disguised as some kind of cooling unit, or a utility box.”
“I’m banged up pretty bad, Jensen. I ain’t moving that fast.”
“This is our only chance, Dirk. We have to stop that bomb from going off. It’s not just the Super Bowl at stake here, dammit—there’s enough toxic gas and radioactive material in those bombs combined to wipe out the entire Eastern seaboard.”

Dirk grimaced as the puncture wound in his side seeped a little more. Shuffling ahead, as fast as he could, his head whirling and vision doubled, he brought the phone around to his left ear, alternating hands to keep pressure on the hole in his side. “Jensen,” he said, “I’m on it.”
“Good to hear, Dirk. Now, it looks like you’re in the A1 boiler room. If you make a left in about five paces, there should be a small utility hatch in the floor to your right.”
“Utility hatch,” Dirk repeated, his voice gravelly and sullen.
“Yes,” Jensen replied. “You’re going to have to crawl.”
“And this was supposed to be my day off…”

Dirk got once more to his hands and knees. It was gonna be a hell of a Super Bowl after all.

Well, they'll have a hell of a time getting the NFL to consent to using the term 'Super Bowl' in a for-profit venture. That's the only problem with the idea...

maybe if I changed it to something more generic, like "Murder at the Mega-Bowl".

In what alternate Universe is Gary Numan doing a Superbowl Halftime Show?

Dirk got once more to his hands and knees. It was gonna be a hell of a Super Bowl after all. But he'd never live to see it. He had a massive stroke on top of a massive heart attack as well as the massive infection from AIDS contracted through a hong kong hooker as well as sclorosis of the liver all coming to fruition at once and KILLING HIM DEAD ON THE SPOT.

It has nothing to do with what you refer to Mr. JBass and everything to do with the way the law is structured. It is still considered a serious offense even if she was to turn 18 next week. Your thinking is flawed.

What law, what offense? Im confused. Ther eis no law that prohibits my attraction, only acting upon. How can a question be flawed logic? I simply asked if it makes a person less creepy to admit attraction to a 18 and a day year old versus a 17 and 364 days.

What say you?

Sandusky looks like your typical pervert. I hope Papa Joe left some of his millions to some of the poor kids that he failed to help, at least that would mitigate things a little.
