With theater chains defecting en masse, Sony Pictures Entertainment has pulled the planned Christmas Day release of “The Interview.”
In announcing the decision to cancel the holiday debut, Sony hit back at the hackers who threatened movie theaters and moviegoers and who have terrorized the studio and its employees for weeks.
“Those who attacked us stole our intellectual property, private emails and sensitive and proprietary material, and sought to destroy our spirit and our morale – all apparently to thwart the release of a movie they did not like,” the statement reads.
“We are deeply saddened at this brazen effort to suppress the distribution of a movie, and in the process do damage to our company, our employees, and the American public,” it continues. “We stand by our filmmakers and their right to free expression and are extremely disappointed by this outcome.”
The studio did not say it would never release the picture theatrically. Insiders tell Variety that Sony is exploring all options, including offering the picture on premium video-on-demand as a way to recoup at least some of its investment.

They are more worried about sensationalists bombing theaters and the liability that goes with it. Expect straight to DVD or On-Demand as the likely vehicle of production. Expensive lesson, but could easily get more expensive with just one incident.

I don't know, I'm sure when the next Gaystation comes out, folks will still be lining up. On the movie front, all it take me is a Clooney or a Pitt and folks will forget.

Who cares about a cancelled release? We'll all get to see this most likely crappy movie eventually. Remember how Sony installed rootkits on PCs through their music CDs 10 years ago? Sony can go fuck themselves with a pineapple.

George Clooney is all pissed off about the pulling of this flick but never said jack shit about movies having to do with Islam, like the movie "Innocence of muslims" movie that caused such a shit storm. Typical Hollywood toughguy.

Sony said that They're gonna end up showing it. Question is, will they make money off it. Theaters and pay per view don't want to show it. It's supposed to suck, but I've seen many movies that were supposed to suck that made me laugh
