Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
"The Hot Zone" is a great book about Ebola and true.

For those who think we don't need big government, you need to read the book. A lot of brave government workers and military personnel took huge risks to stop Ebola which is a truly horrific way to die.

Great reading, scary, well written and hard to put down. Best part it is true.
I have no connection to the book in anyway. A big part of the book takes place in Fairfax County.

They were studying it for chemical weapons use, not the noblest of ideals. My dad worked across the street from the lab in military communications.

That is discussed in the book. Supposedly we stopped offensive chemical warfare development during the Nixon administration all the research is for offensive use as well as civilian outbreaks. Regardless, the Reston outbreak is scary and interesting.

I feel sorry for parents that unwittingly send their kids to a preschool on the site of an ebola outbreak.

The Ebola outbreak in Reston apparently mutated, 4 lab workers eventually tested positive to it and had no ill effects. The Strain Ebola Zaire was estimated to be 90% fatal to humans. It was near 100% Fatal to the monkeys. The Reston Strain is now called, you guessed it "Ebola Reston." The scary thing is that the Reston strain was spread through the air. They had previously believed it was only transmitted by bodily fluid. I hate the whole Zombie thing, but the way Ebola kills you is damn near the horror movie version of it. This is going on big time now in Africa and killing 90% of the people who catch it.

Keep in mind, that all of our forefathers are from Africa, so if it is killing them, it will kill us when it gets here. We may even have a higher mortality rate since we have not have had to contend with it before in our history. Think about over 90% of the earths population is less then 24 hours by plane away from the Ebola epicenter. You start shedding the virus almost right away after being infected. Next time you are on a plane and some guy is hacking away, everyone on the plane could be exposed. Pretty scary and the worst part is, it is real.

Yep. Makes perfect sense to knowingly bring Ebola-infected Americans back to The States. I really don't care if they're fellow Americans. Treat those fuckers in Africa before bringing them back.
