Text message fraud

I just got a text message from the number "5000" with the following spam:

Sender: 5000
Message: Notice / This is an automated message from Bank-Fund Staff F.C.U. Your ATM card has been suspended. To reactivate call urgent at 1-909-978-6050

Only posting it here because one of my co-workers on a different provider got it today too. This is a SCAM! Don't fall for it!

Seems like the chances of this working are minimal. How many members does the World Bank/IMF credit union even have?

I just got the exact same message. I guess they are trying to see who they can get with this hoax.

I think the saddest thing is that anyone would actually believe a text message like that. And even if I did receive a message like that, I'd call my bank and not the number on the text message.

Sounds like new tactics from the Nigerian Nightmare people.

I also got this text yesterday. How do we report this and to who?

I got it too. That's the second spam text message I've gotten this month, which is annoying but not yet to the level that I'm taking action. I get charged $.20 per message so it wouldn't take that many messages before it would start to add up. Has anyone complained to their cell phone provider and gotten spam charges reversed?

This is the place to file complaints: (FCC)

http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm

Its always a good idea to report these kinds of problems IMMEDIATELY!

If nobody complains they will not know. Believe it or not,
they are not Mind Readers as some perceive.

Re. 909 text message scam re. ATM/credit card numbers

The phone number referenced in the text message 909-978-6050 is listed for sale at a website entitled "cheapest dids". [www.cheapestdids.com]

The site/company selling the number is Bingo Consulting--registered as follows:

INTERNATIONAL SECTION 214 APPLICATION
FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY
1. Applicant
Name: B i n g o C onsulting LLC P h o n e Number: 949−231−2818
DBA
Name:
Fax Number:
Street: 114 Encantado Canyon E−Mail: kmittal@bingoconsulting.com
City: Rancho Santa Margarita State: CA
Country: USA Zipcode: 92688 −
Attention: M r Kunal Mittal

The Los Angeles FBI office (which would have jurisdiction over a 909 number --the one in the text) told me to call back after 9 am Pacific time. There seems no easy way to report this in the interim.

Just to see, is this a locational thing? are people getting this message across the country? just in the DC area? Are they connected to the Bank or Fund?

from:5000

Applicationcenter / This is an automated message from Charter Bank. Your ATM card has been suspended. To reactivate call urgent at 1-877-526-9298.

The thing is though that isnt very professional and i dont use that bank :) but anyhow your bank wouldnt text you if something of this nature has happened, they would call you!! Also if you try to research the numbers they leave nothing comes up :P

Got this tonight, from a different "bank", and I live in Austin. I think they must be basing the bank name on the area code.
