Fuck you, Richard Childress. And fuck you, too Austin Dillon. May this car NEVER see Victory Lane again.

That's just wrong,,,the number 3 should not be used as a marketing ploy

It should be retired by NASCAR, fuck Childress

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should

He'll probably use the 28 as a comparison to justify his decision

What an asshole Childress is. I can't believe even a rich worthless SOB had this lack of decency, but its obvious from this. Curse that new #3 car, may it never win, or get even in the top 20, and have mechanical issues constantly.

Who gives a fuck? Let another dumbass who has a history of concussions slam his car into the wall at 200 mph. It helps clean up the gene pool.

Nascar is a joke. They change the rules in the middle of the game. Guys that didnt qualify for the chase suddenly qualify because Nascar wrote a new rule or points system. I am not surprised at anything they do. If you are Jimmy Johnson or Jeff Gordon you can do no wrong.

They have to do something, people just don't care about it, or will pay a shit load of money to see it anymore.

They imploded. Jacking up ticket prices and eliminating the smaller tracks which since its start were their bread and butter. The favoritism to Gordon and Johnson is obvious. Its all about the money now. A smaller team doesnt have a chance.

I don't follow Nascar much nowadays, but also feel that using #3 again is not good. It might be a bad omen, too, and the new user, Childress, could die in a fiery crash just because of it. I'd change the number.

While Dale Earnhardt is not the ONLY driver to pilot a car with the #3 on it...he DID drive it to 6 NASCAR Winston Cup Championships for Richard Childress Racing. (He won a 7th Cup CHampionship in 1980 driving for owner Rod Osterlund.)

Additionally, it was in this same Richard Childress Racing GM Goodwrench #3 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that he died in a last lap crash at the Daytona 500 on February 18, 2001.

NASCAR's policies and rules do not allow for car numbers to be retired. When a team enters a new car in the series, the car is assigned its number by NASCAR. If the car owner does not continue to register that number each season (whether the car races or not) the number goes back into the pot and can be re-assigned to the next race team as NASCAR wishes.

Following Earnhardt's death, Richard Childress (his car owner and boss) said the race team would go on. He went out and hired Kevin Harvick who drove the GM Goodwrench #29 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Harvick's car typically carried an inverted paint scheme from that of Earnhardt's #3. Where Earnhardt's car was black, Harvick's was white. Childress continued to register the #3 so that it would continue to be available to a driver in his stable and the speculation was that Dale Earnhardt, Jr. at some point in his career (perhaps his last year), would perhaps sign a one year deal to drive for his Dad's old boss, Richard Childress and put the #3 back on the racetrack in a proper and fitting way and honor his father. And it's possible this could still happen. In the meantime...

As in indicated in the OP's post, Richard Childress' grandson Austin Dillon has been driving his grandfather's owned cars in NASCAR's lower ranks and will be a rookie this year in NASCAR's top division, the Sprint Cup. Austin Dillon will be driving the #3 car.

No one...NOBODY should EVER drive a car with a 3 on it unless their last name is Earnhardt. This coupled with the fact that Austin Dillon has more dollars then sense and is only where he is because of his birthright and not his skill really does not sit well with most NASCAR fans.

I've heard all the excuses and I'm tired of assholes telling me what everyone already knows. We know NASCAR does not retire numbers, so what? Make a fucking one time exception for the man that damned near built the sport to a mega industry. Yes we know others including the mediocre Richard Childress drove the #3 car. But, nobody won 6 championships in it, or died in it on the last lap of the Daytona 500, or had his wife give him her last kiss just before his supposed best friend Childress put him in it, or gave his fans so many years of excitement with it. We all know these things. Now Childress is going to bring it back for what? Because his grandson wore it on his baseball uniform? To honor his best friend? Because it is good for the sport? I have to throw the bullshit flag on those reasons. There is no reason except ego. He wants to see his grandson drive the same number he drove....Earnhardt be damned! Now I have to go and take all my 3 stuff off my truck and put away all my 3 shirts that don't say Earnhardt cause I damned sure don't want anyone to confuse me, a fan of the Intemadator with being a fan of the Immatator.

Nascar is not a sport, not even close. Any asswipe can drive a car in a circle. It is hilarious when you hear rednecks talking about it like it is real. Really no different than professional wrestling.

That car should never return to the track because when Sr died in it, NASCRAP died with him.

It sounds like you speak from experience. I mean being an asswipe. I love it when know nothing jerkoffs try to insult us by calling us rednecks. Wouldn't know a real redneck from a case of red ass if he saw one. Hey short dick, try driving a car at 200 mph with 42 other cars inches away for 500 miles and see what that does to your scrotum. Last time I checked no pro wrestler ever died or even risked his life in his speedos unless he was caught with someone's wife. Maybe you should stick to watching curling or professional darts.
