Sad to see that imbeciles can actually be elected to the Senate.

So did Harry.

He's used it more than anyone.

Reid, In 2005: “The Filibuster Is Far From A Procedural Gimmick. It’s Part Of The Fabric Of This Institution … Senators Have Used The Filibuster To Stand Up To Popular Presidents, To Block Legislation, And, Yes, Even, As I’ve Stated, To Stall Executive Nominees.” SEN. HARRY REID: “The filibuster is not a scheme and it certainly isn’t new. The filibuster is far from a procedural gimmick. It’s part of the fabric of this institution we call the Senate. It was well-known in colonial legislatures before we became a country, and it’s an integral part of our country’s 214-year history. The first filibuster in the United States Congress happened in 1790. It was used by lawmakers from Virginia and South Carolina who were trying to prevent Philadelphia from hosting the first Congress. Since then, the filibuster has been employed hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of times. It’s been employed on legislative matters, it’s been employed on procedural matters relating to the president’s nominations for Cabinet and sub-Cabinet posts, and it’s been used on judges for all those years. One scholar estimates that 20 percent of the judges nominated by presidents have fallen by the wayside, most of them as a result of filibusters. Senators have used the filibuster to stand up to popular presidents, to block legislation, and, yes, even, as I’ve stated, to stall executive nominees. The roots of the filibuster are found in the Constitution and in our own rules.” (Sen. Harry Reid, Floor Remarks, 5/18/05)

A member of the senate expounds in filibuster style, the failings of an upcoming law and tries to persuade Congress away from it.

The law goes into effect and just happens to live down to the content of said filibuster.

The Senate does away with the filibuster yet continues to ignore the failed law.

Good Luck in 2014, fellas!

Certainly not, he also did not read Dr. Seuss, pages of comics and other useless information to Congress.

Stop denying what republicans do.

Senate can still filibuster all the legislation it wants. Just can't do it for confirmation of judges and appointments.

It was not a filibuster. It did not delay or otherwise affect any vote.

He simply gave a long speech prior to the vote. Which is why you may see it referred to as a faux- or non-filibuster.

But since I know that your little hive mind has been conditioned not to accept anything which doesn't come from state-approved media sources, maybe you'll believe it when Think Progress says so:

Quote

Cruz wants to stall the bill — and ultimately force the government to shut down next week — unless Democrats agree to defund Obamacare. But it’s not actually a real filibuster. The Senate will vote on the legislation on Wednesday afternoon regardless of how long Cruz speaks.

you guys realize it's not like in mr. smith goes to washington anymore. they don't have to stand on the floor of the senate for hours on end reading nonsense. they can just threaten or 'call in' a filibuster.

And what Cruz did (and Paul this Summer did) was an actual filibuster. They stood up there and talked until they couldn't anymore, hour after hour. You may not like their politics, but these two had the gumption to at least do it the right way.

What Paul did was a filibuster, he delayed a vote. What Ted Cruz did he sought and received permission from Harry Reid to do with an allotted time frame. It in no way delayed or affected a vote.

The Republicans he was appealing to to vote against their own bill didn't even vote in his favor. I believe if I'm not mistaken he didn't vote the way he urged others to himself.

Ted Cruz is an idiot.
