So I thought my 8 year old nephew would like a bag of army men to play with. My older sister (his Mom) freaked the fuck out when I handed them to the kid. She told me that plastic army men can warp a kids mind and turn him into a mass murderer or something. Is that really possible? BTW my sister voted for Obama twice.

Plastic soldiers are great for screwing around at the office if you work in cubicles. Your cube mate and you each set up soldiers in formation on your desks and then take turns shooting rubber bands at them. Whoever kills the other guys troops first wins the war.

You better listen to your sister. She is an obama supporter which makes her quite smart. If the kid got hold of the plastic soldiers the next thing you know he would be eating a pastry into the shape of a gun.

He is her son which means that unless the father says otherwise she gets to make whatever bone headed rules she wants regarding presents. You don't have to buy into them though. If she won't let you give the kids a perfectly safe toy to play with because of what it represents to her, then tell her you just won't get the kids anything.

As for warping kids minds, there are plenty of anecdotal stories of people who insisted their boys not be exposed to war type toys discovering those same boys making toy guns out of sticks, bread, etc.

And BTW there are plenty of conservative parents out there who come up with equally bone headed rules for their kids.

There has never been a link established between toy guns and violence or toy army soldiers and violence. Just stupid lazy parents wanting to blame someone or something for their poor judgement in raising kids.

The Violence Policy Center and affiliated groups have had toy soldiers and military equipment on their shit list for years because they say it promotes violence and the "gun culture". Fuck'em.

I have watched every episode of Gunsmoke yet never had a desire to call someone out to see who is the fastest gun in Springfield.

Just think of the entire 80s generation that grew up on GI Joe cartoons.
