Christmas music disapprection thread
Posted by: TheMeeper ()
Date: November 24, 2008 12:34PM

I just walked to the deli down the street, and as soon I walked in I noticed they were playing christmas music.

Are there people who actually like this crap??

Maybe it sounds bah-humbug-ish, but I seriously think it's probably the WORST genre of music in existence. Can anybody name a christmas song that is good, one that it isn't offensively sappy or some horrendously unfunny novelty like that "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer". Ya know what I want for Xmas? I want to choke whoever wrote that shit.

I think the only decent one I can think of is that Happy Xmas one that John Lennon did. But even that sorta makes me think of that awful "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime" that McCartney recorded- a total fucking embarrassment.

So whoever likes this shit, please post your opinion here so I can flame you in retaliation for having to here that dumbass Adam Sandler hannakuh crap or that gay Billy Squier song.

Any nominations for the all-time worst?

I really hate how they start playing it before Thanksgiving is even over. It comes earlier and earlier every year. By 2012, we'll be shopping for halloween costumes and listening to a musak version of "Silent Night."

Nomination for all time worst: "Silver Bells"
2nd runner up: "It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas"
Honorable Mentions: "Sleigh Bells" and "All I Want For Christmas (is you)" by Mariah Carey

Worst of all time? 12 Days of Christmas...and all the so-called funny novelty versions of this dreadful song.

Yea, I really can't stand Christmas music. James Brown's 'Funky Christmas' compilation album is pretty cool, though. Especially "Go Power At Christmas Time".

RUN DMC's Christmas song was cool............back in 1986. But I can't blame them for trying to cash in on the Christmas commercialism craze.

Worst offender has got to be "Santa Baby" by some whiny lady that seems to follow me everywhere I go.

Best X-Mas songs-

1. Oh Holy Night (as long as it's not sung by Celine Dijon)

2. I Believe in Father Christmas (ELP)

3. So this is Christmas (War is Over)

4. 2000 Miles (The Pretenders)

5. Silent Night/7 O'Clock News (Simon and Garfunkel)

I like Christmas music... the week before Christmas. But a month of Christmas music does suck.

I know it is not an Xmas song, but Adam Sandlers Hanukkah song is pretty good.

Say what you will, but unfortunately the radio stations that go "all Christmas" the day after Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving day, or even after Halloween - get a huge bump in the ratings.

Grinch: And THEN they'd do something I like least of all!
Narrator: Every Who down in Who-ville, the tall and the small, would stand close together, with Christmas bells ringing. They'd stand hand-in-hand. And the Whos would start singing!
Grinch: They'll sing! And they'd sing! AND they'd SING! SING! SING! SING!
Narrator: And the more the Grinch thought of the Who-Christmas-Sing the more the Grinch thought,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Grinch: I know just what to do!
Narrator: - -the Grinch laughed in his throat.
Grinch: I'll make a quick Santy Claus hat and a coat.
Narrator: And he chuckled, and clucked,
Grinch: What a great Grinchy trick! With this coat and this hat, I'll look just like Saint Nick

For halloween one year I was heat miser. Dyed my hair red and painted my face red. Took four days to get all the red dye out of my hair and there was red paint on all sorts of stuff.

David Johansen is a prime example of why old punk rockers should probably just die.

This is beyond awful...

Joe Strummer, Sid Vicious and most of the Ramones already have that covered.

I agree with Meeper, that McCartney song is horrendous. I can remember working a retail job during the holidays while in high school, and they played that song in heavy rotation. I was seriously hoping for a bullet in the head to end my shift each time it came on. Go figure that this is the same man that tortured us with Say Say Say - the song and the video.

Bob & Doug McKenzie did a version of the 12 Days of Christmas that is tolerable.

One of the greatest Christmas songs of all time and Celine Dion actually keeps the histrionics in check for a pretty sublime rendition...

the only reason I like that Mariah song is cuz she dresses like a hoochie when she sings it. But my LEAST favourite Xmass song, which was my mom's fave song was SNoopy Vs the Red Barron or anything by the trans siberian express tuetonic symphony versions of xmass crap. I LOVE that motown song by the ronettes maybe? "Christmaaaaaaaaaass, The snows coming down, Christmaaaaaaass etc etc.
