Beats Audio WTF

Are these Beats headphones any good? The brand just popped out of nowhere, but they look like overpriced Skullcandy headsets. When I think of audiophile headsets, I think of Sennheiser, Grato, or some Sony and JVC models.

Are they audiophile headsets, or just something that puts out high volume and bass?

They are good but severely overpriced. Stick with Sennheiser.

^ This. They're heavy on the bass side which is why the hip hop crowd likes them along with heavy status marketing to that same group. Lots of others for lots less money are better overall headphones.

If you just focus on the SOUND QUALITY of Beats Audio products, they are a few notches below Sennheiser and the elite makes. Sennheiser receives an A+ for SOUND QUALITY on most of their products while Beats are B- at best.

Beats has put every production dollar into the sound quality and as stated above are engineered to favor the niggers' music. Where their products get an "F" is in the details. Their headbands LOOK stout, but upon close inspection are cheap plastic. As the headphones get used (especially if you do that gay nigger DJ club shit of putting one can up to your ear and stretching the every living beJEEZus out of the headband) they break. This kind of plastic needs to retain petroleum and other moisture to remain flexible. If they get left in a car or other hot environment, the plastic headband dries out. When plastic dries out, you get stress-fractures and eventual failure. Obviously, this information does not apply to their in-ear models which do not have a headband. Finally, they use cheap cable/wire and jack plugs.

One of the things that I do like about the Beats headphones is that the cable they provide is male-male. It plugs into the audio source AND it plugs into the headphones themselves. They aren't hard-wired into the headphones so, when it's time to travel/store the headphones, you can completely unplug the cable so that it doesn't get snapped off. Also, it's easier to link several sets of headphones together off the same audio source in case you wanna' do that sexual practice portrayed in "...About Last Night". Of course, this also means you have one more thing to keep track of. Either way, if you go the Beats route...I recommend upgrading to a larger gauge cable (which also offers decreased signal resistance for improved performance) with premium jack plugs.

Wrong. Beats by Dr. Dre and Monster cables parted ways in January 2012.

Beats are overpriced, but you can get some good deals (60% off) through sites like Groupon Goods and Daily Steals. Only problem with these deals is the headphones are refurbs and don't come with the box.

I use Bang & Olufsen headphones. The look great, sound great and I can wear them with a Kiton suit or gym clothes. B&O all the way. As has been states here before, Beats is for African Americans like Dr. DRE. Not for me.

What is this 2011? This topic is old.

Beats Audio is mainly found on Laptops and cellphones.

Here's a good explanation of Beats Audio

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cdbn_pmxFic

"Beats by Dr. Dre" is the Headphone line. It's made by Monster Cable, the people who convinced clueless people to buy $250 'gold plated' HDMI cables (*snicker* http://lifehacker.com/5506219/why-you-should-never-pay-more-than-10-for-hdmi-cables ).

Here's a good review of Beats headphones vs high end Audio Technica, which makes the relevant points:

I spent 30,000 of my AMEX points and got some Bose QC15s. I know there are a lot of Bose haters out there, but these are great for traveling. A little bulky, but worth it.

Bose is also shitty, though not as bad as Beats.

Bang & Olufsen FTW

I've tried many different studio headphones and I have yet to find one that scores well in all the important categories, which to me are sound quality, comfort and durability.

The Audio Tecnica M40 and M-50's sound decent and are fairly comfortable, but the earcup material breaks down pretty fast. The industry standard Sony MDR-7506 headphones have the same issue, but sound really good.
AKG K240's (which many people swear by) sound dull and thuddy and are uncomfortable, but they are built very well.

So far, the best overall headphones I've had are my current Beyerdynanic DT-770 Pro's. They sound really good and accurate, very durable and comfortable and the earcups have a soft, velvet type of surface that I like. However, they are expensive. Not as expensive as those silly Beats units, but worth the money.

BTW, I assure you that those Beats units are made by one of the main manufacturers of headphones and just put Dr. Dre's name on it.

So how much does Dr. Dre make every time you buy a Beats headset?

Probably 5-7% from each unit, which works out to be around $25 per unit.

And you see every NFL player wearing them before games.

Dr. DRE has an equity stake in Beats worth over $200 million based on IPO plans.

None of those NFL players have paid for their Beats headphones. They either stole them or they were given them by Beats specifically so mopes like you would stroke themselves upon seeing players wearing them in pre-game...

Damn who pays $300 for a set of headphones. Every set I've ever owned ends up breaking so I just stopped using them/only use dirt cheap headphones.

Rumored buyout by Apple for over $3 billion. Dr. Dre is the first billionaire of hip hop.

Stick to Grado. Each one of their headphones are hand-built in the USA of high quality materials.(except the iGrado earbuds - made in China) You are guaranteed quality

From what I understand, Dre owns 25% and Carlyle Group has 50%. Unsure who makes up the other 25%.

Dre was smart to stop rapping and get into the backbones of the business to make $. Today's rap is horrible and cliché.

Apple is trying to maintain their hip image among the younger crowd, who were all like 6 years old when the iPod came out.

Of course they weren't even born yet when Dre came out, but whatever.
