8 out of 10 Americans Find Gov Shutdown Unacceptable

Republicans are digging a hole again.

Poll Shows Disapproval of Threat of Government Shutdown

Eight in 10 Americans find it unacceptable for either President Obama or members of Congress to threaten to shut down the government during budget negotiations in order to achieve their goals, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll. Fewer than 1 in 5 think the stalemate between Mr. Obama and the Republicans in Congress is acceptable.

Republicans, Democrats, independents and Tea Party supporters alike object to the threat of a shutdown, the poll says.

“What they’re doing has so many repercussions, and I just don’t think that they should hold the budget over everyone’s head the way they are,” Barbra Torres, a retired health care administrator living in Cape Coral, Fla., said in a follow-up interview.

“It makes me so angry that these folks can’t come up with anything to compromise on or agree with,” said Ms. Torres, who described herself as an independent. “We elected them to office to pass laws and get things done.”

Yes, the American people elected them to office. NOT ME THOUGH. I DON'T VOTE. BUT GUESS WHAT, I BET AMERICA WILL STILL RE-ELECT THE SAME DUMBASS INCOMBENTS ANYWAY THE NEXT TIME AN ELECTION IS HELD. SO WHO REALLY IS SCREWING UP AMERICA???

I am really looking forward to some days off. I can make more money doing side work for one day than I can working for our government all week. Just as long as my benefits are not affected it will be a party!

Hey civil servant 4 u 2, read below. Copied from another post. You are possibly screwed.

"All Government workers already have several hours of Leave-Without-Pay because of the last furlough. Tack on more hours with this shutdown which is considered a Furlough status and that just compounds the problem because once a Federal worker reaches 80 hours of non-pay status it affects their annual and sick leave, health benefits, and retirement.

Also, to just make it even better. All Federal workers have to come to work on Oct 1st for "close-out" paperwork. Meaning, you all come in and sit around then sign a paper then you can leave. Expect 4 hours of bullshit time on the 1st."

The Government unexpectedly shuts down at the very mention of the word "snow". No one seems to care or notice then...why should we now?

That's because it's weather related. Absolutely nobody has control over the weather except GOD. Now, Congress has control over their actions but don't give a damn about doing it.

Only one thing, that shit will NEVER HAPPEN! We will be off a few days or a week at most. It is all a big game. I have seen it before in my 27 years on the job, the shutdown is a symbolic gesture. I hear the leaf looking on Skyline drive is going to be great this year and I would enjoy a few days up there right in the middle of the week.

Hey civil servant....a few days won't hurt because that won't make you reach the 80 hours of non-pay status but 4 or more days will. Lets just hope they are blowing smoke out of their ass and they sign a CR at the last minute.

8 out of 10 people in this country work for the government, don't they?

I don't get how the GOP is shutting down anything.

By my count, they are the only ones so far to vote for a continuing budget.

It would appear the publics beef is with the Senate and the president.

They're not. But that's the media's narrative. O'bummer and Harry the body Reid could start acting like adults any time they want to and actually tackle our serious financial liabilities. But they won't because they have the media and at least 51% of the LIVs believing them no matter what.

Boo Hoo. Just as many Americans, almost, find obamacare unacceptable. If the government shuts down it will be very short term and most Americans won't even feel the pain.

The Senate passed a budget in March 2013, The house GOP-tards have refused 18 times since then to negotiate a federal budget.

They did negotiate Reid didnt. The house doesnt want Obamacare so they compromised and proposed a delay for something liberals admit need fixing any way. Reid did his usual bullshit of nothing and we got here. The Senate hasnt done anything in the last 5 years since Obamacare passed and Reid is the one who perfected these tactics under Bush when he was the minority leader but the progressives in the media give the Senate a free pass on everything.

Facts are facts.

WASHINGTON -- House Republicans decided Monday that government shutdown or not, it was more important for them to keep trying to strike a blow against Obamacare. Having failed to convince Senate Democrats to go along, the Republicans resorted to seeking a "conference committee" to resolve the differences.

For Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), chair of the Senate Budget Committee, the move is ironic. She has been trying for more than a half-year to go to a conference to work out dramatic differences between the Senate budget and the House version. Senate and House Republicans have objected, repeatedly.

But with the clock expiring at midnight Monday, and federal officials starting to shut down all non-essential government functions, the House resorted to seeking a conference committee to pass a spending bill, or "continuing resolution" that runs only through mid-November or mid-December.

Senate Democrats called that negotiating at gunpoint.

"We know going to a conference means that we have to compromise -- that's what a conference is," Murray said just before midnight. "But we're not going to do it with a gun to our head that says we're shutting government down and we're going to conference over a short little six-week C.R. We have to deal with the longer-term budget. We have asked many times to go to conference on that."

Indeed, Murray and her colleagues asked 18 times. They have been blocked by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and a group of tea party Republicans led by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

There's another irony in the new House conference bid. For three years before 2013, it was Democrats who did not even pass a budget, although for the last two years they argued that the Budget Control Act served the same function. During that time, McConnell and most other Republicans hammered Democrats for failing to pass a budget.

You left out the part where in an effort to compromise they also gave the option for a 1 year delay not a full repeal.

The Senate however isnt willing to consider anything but getting exactly what they want. Its basically Obamacare all over again, compromise means doing exactly what they want.

The Senate wont consider spending cuts, wont consider an Obamacare delay, what exactly do they think theyre meeting on a middle ground for?

Wrong. The CR passed by the Senate locks in the sequester spending cuts, same as the House CR. There is no disagreement between the Senate & the House about spending in the CR.

No, the Senate will not agree to an Obamacare delay. So the House should give it up, take the win on spending (which is what the CR is all about) and move the fuck on.

999/1000 workers either work for gov or survive only due to gov customers

5/10 workers work for gov at 3x the pay. the other half sweats all day and still owes to serve at the threat of getting axed

1/2 of americans are out of work and are being threatened

1/2 of Working americans are gov workers who cheer any progress by their "union brothers". but they aren't a union they are facists. unions work for companies "willing buyer willing seller". gov unions point weapons at you when you are "not willing" to their "sales of service" to you.

they already got their money taken, banks are allowed to take their homes taken, and the streets are highly criminal, and the housing for the poor is full of insider democrats that party: no room they say

1/2 of IRA (all retirement savings of all workers in the usa, gov workers NOT included) dissapeared in 2008 and was never explained and hidden by media rats as a hardly worthy story

1/4 of the whole usa are debt slaves who are over worked by gov sleezeballs who do nothing but defame others and demand everything. and they refuse to pay for "made in the usa" or pay enough at stores so that people can get wages (and to leaches that don't even work that gov knows about and protects - like in NJ)

double dipping is 1990's. these people are heavily gutting many multiples now.

-------------------------------

the only people who give a damn are union gov workers.

?) many all around d.c. that are fed union workers
1) many in every county gov
2) many in every state gov
3) many in every county that are state unions workers
4) many in every county that are feds unions workers

totally whacked out. and you call them: they just say "our office doesn't handle that here's a number for you to call"

you find out no one handles it.

you got 1/2 of america living off the dole, stalking and defaming others, claiming their job is to spend but never to serve

it's not like many of them are essential planners. you ever hear of a mining accident? (ie, the people that ACTUALLY bring home the bacon?)

yea no. they are only there after the fact to complain they have a book of rules their parents wrote in the 1950's that wasn't followed. they are never doing the damn mining, most of them. what the hell are they doing?
