I visited Maryland today
Posted by: brad! ()
Date: September 18, 2013 09:30PM

I had to go to Bethesda. It is not in Virginia. It is in Maryland. I had to drive Toyota Corolla across Potomac. Maryland is not Virginia. Many more black people. may more police cars.

I'm glad to be back in Virginia.

I have a philosophy that there are noticably more negroes in Maryland than in Virginia because many generations ago, the negroes were eager to leave Virginia for the freedom Mayland had to offer. Four or five generations later, most people stay close to where they grew up and the negroes stay in Maryland.

Fun fact: Maryland has the largest population of black folks outside of the deep south. About a third of the population is black. Virginia is around 20%.

That's one of the reasons Maryland is much more Democratic than Virginia.

The river has a lot to do with it.

DC spills over into MD more.

Can't do that to our side.

Also, there's a heavy Jewish population in MoCo. Also, lean more Democrat.

Is that on the "Strip" ie. E. Baltimore Street? If so, that whole block is hilarious. Who knows, maybe Governors O'Malley and Perry from Texas are drinking a few over there.

Actually Western Maryland is pretty sweet, although for visiting only, due to how poor it is up in that part. Deep Creek Lake, Wisp Ski resort are good spots.

The country part of Maryland is pretty nice. If you go North up route 15 it's all farms, farm stands and barbeque places.

The urban areas of any state are usually shitholes.

I will concede that Maryland drivers seem to be collectively clueless.

But, if I ever moved to New Jersey, I don't think I could admit to living there.

I don't like the name, New Jersey. New Jerrrsey..

The biggest problem with living in New Jersey is that you are in New Jersey.

There are a lot of nice areas. I've often thought NJ is one of the most segregated places around. You have either bonecrushing poverty or little Arlington-esque villages (OK not quite to that level..).

The cities are worse than the worst urban area in Virginia while the suburbs are pretty decent.

Freedom Maryland had to offer? It was a slave state when the Civil War started. Slavery ended in both states about the same time.

I love Cape May.... spent a week there in July, in a big, beautiful old house with a wrap around porch, where I would often sit and drink too much wine.... while reading a book, so I would look intellectual.

One evening, I almost fell off the porch while bending over to cut some purple hydrangeas for the dinner table... oops... I'm fine, I'm fine..

Actually, Virginia has twice as many blacks as Maryland. With the exception of the large cities in Maryland. Some counties in Virginia that are rural are almost 40% black.

Not true. Blacks represent a large portion of the population in Maryland in both raw numbers (albeit narrowly) and by percentage (significantly)

As of the 2012 estimate, Virginia is 19.7% black, which yields a rounded estimate of approximately 1,612,616 black folks.

For Maryland the stats would be 30.0% black, or a rounded 1,765,369.

Virginia may have more "black counties", as blacks in Maryland are heavily concentrated in Prince George's County and Baltimore City.

SE DC versus parts of Baltimore is debatable for more dangerous. Though at least in Baltimore Hopkins probably isnt to far away when you get shot, DC traffic could take forever to get to the ER

SATA cables are old now? As opposed to what, SAS?

Ahh AGP. You gave us many fine memories.

FWIW, the Radeon HD 3850 and HD 4670 are the best cards you can get in AGP. For some reason, manufacturers continued to invest in AGP long after it was dead. Probably because it's fairly trivial to do. You just need an AGP-PCIe bridge chip, which have been commonplace since 2004.

Believe it or not, they still make new PCI cards. Now that's old!
