25 Years Since Bon Jovi Released "New Jersey"

I hate this band. I do. Like Journey, this was a band that you said you liked in order to lay pipe on chicks in high-school. But, I had to post the link because here we are 25 years later and I only NOW find out about their use of focus groups in deciding on the album's content. Gimme' a fuckin' break...no WONDER it fucking sold so many copies.

You know what, Bon Jovi? Real artists lay down their music their way. It's up to fans to then decide whether or not they want to accept it. And that decision is made AFTER the album is cut and released. I mean fuck...playing dozens of songs for a focus group in order to gauge the music potential popularity and drive the album's sales? That sounds like a Gene Simmons/Paul Stanley move. Shit, they're probably pissed THEY didn't think of it first...

I've always despised Bon Jovi. Really lightweight pretty boy shit that got all the radio play that harder bands deserved. The girls sure loved them though.

Two things about those motherfuckers-

First of all, they don't write much of their own material. There's a guy named Desmond Child who has written a great deal of their shit, as well as a lot of the 80's hits of Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Heart and countless others. DC is a really talented dude, but has used his skill for EVIL, writing poppy hits for people who have the propensity and ability to rock.

Second, Aldo Nova. I'd always heard BJ ripped Aldo Nova off, but I find out on the internet they are friends. For better or worse Aldo Nova definitely influenced BJ's meld of metal and pop down to the synth hooks and power chords.

Has ANYTHING good ever come from New Jersey?

I think Debby Harry was born there, but that's the only talent I could come up with

New Jersey-

Starz

The Smithereens

That's all I can come up with. Heavily populated state right next to NYC, should be more.

From 1981, here's Aldo Nova with..."Fantasy". This video is a goddamned visual time machine if I've EVER seen one. Now, if BJ is derived from Aldo Nova why is it I can take listening to "Fantasy" but any BJ song makes me feel like I need a shot of insulin?
