Did Egypt make a fatal mistake cutting communication?

I wonder if it was a mistake for Egypt to cut off internet and cell phone commuication. Without those lines of communication, rumors swirl around stronger than ever. Now thousands are in the streets, hundreds are traveling city to city, and Chinese Whispers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_whispers is the rule.

Good or bad idea? Got me - it'll be Veddy Interestign to see hwo this one ... plays out.

They were trying to head something off at the pass that apparently was under discussion for the entire previous week. It may have made some dent in the magnitude, but in the end it's not at all clear that it has mattered much. It's Saturday and they're still defying the curfew, apparently without much in the way of repercussions.

Pretty much every world government with the exception of North Korea and Cuba needs to read up on "The Streisand Effect."

Yes, I'm including the U.S. in that list.
