Northern Virginians want to act very superior to the rest of Virginia. But they don't realize how ignorant and provincial they come across when they are this way. Yes, they have the strongest economic power in the Commonwealth of Virginia, but when they brag about this, it makes them seem unsophisticated and as if they have a chip on their shoulder.

They want to break away from their past. Well Northern Virginia is not really that nice of a place. Its highly lacking in creativity for one thing. And the problem is, people just go to work in Northern Virginia and sit in taffic all day long, and then go to TGI Friday's or bowling or watch the Washington Redskins on TV. Is that really a culture to be proud of?

Ive lived in Central Virginia for over 12 years, and I grew up in Northern Virginia. But I have been all over the Commonwealth- Danville, Lynchburg, Williamsburg, Southwest VA, Shenandoah Valley. The fault , IMO, lies with Northern Virginia. People are just way too uptight and high strung and not friendly to outsiders. Much more so than the "hicks" they try to make fun of from ROVA (the rest of va).

I've lived in northern VA all the time I've been in this country. What you're not getting right is that this area moves very quickly and is extremely busy. Tis the same in many major other places - NYC, LA, London, Paris, etc. The people for the most part are good just as they down south. Since there are so many of us in a relative small area you're going to see more people that are assholes...but the overall proportion of good vs bad people I'd bet would be the same just about anywhere.

The people are the same really anywhere but this area is indeed different than the rest of VA. The pace is much faster, I in fact, somewhat envy you if you come from a quieter more relaxed paced place. But I don't want to give up the money and life-style...at least not yet. But perhaps one day I'll join you down south.

Well Northern Virginia used to be "Down South", and thats the whole point. They get very upset about being Virginians, and they like to make fun of Virginia. There are many nice people in Northern Virginia too- not everyone is this way. But some make it a point to make fun. I have a friend from Roanoke who was made fun of his "accent" while living in Burke. In Burke- VIRGINIA for crying out loud. Not NJ, or New York, or Boston, or LA. But Burke, VA! Northern Virginia culturally used to be like North Carolina.

Im from NYC ,and I moved to Arlington a few years ago. to me NOVA is a Southern backwater if you ask me. And its hard to find a mail box around here even! You guys are hysterical if you think you're the North. Its South plain and simple, and I even met some guy in Manassas with one of those rebel flag decals. Granted, it was on a Lexus. But you guys are just wannabee yankees. Its not a bad thing, just accept it and move on.

Mannasas has alot of Mexicans that every year get out their countries flag and drive around being obnoxious by honking horns, driving recklessly and obscuring their rearward vision with huge flags, throwing trash all over he place while hanging out of windows and sunroofs screaming @the top of their lungs like lunatics. The Lexus driver was probably flying the 'Rebel Flag' in protest of this very Anti-Aamerican behavior.

I can say one thing though, and that's the fact that when driving over a thousand miles south each Summer, the place that always gives me the most grief with nut-case drivers is without a doubt NoVa. Don't get me wrong, there are bad drivers everywhere, but Richmond northward has an extremely high concentration of them.
