Socialism - List Companies You Want The US Federal Gov to Run

Now that we are doing socialism in the US

Since AIG and a number of invest firms are now going to be bailed out and run by the Federal government, I thought maybe we should make a list of other companies for the gov to run.

Bailout and run these companies too..
Boeing
Ford
General Electric
General Motors
Exxon
Sun Microsystems

You left out the airlines, the industry is ripe for nationalization.

I think Bush/McCain should take over Fairfax Underground. That way all of the underpriveleged redistricting victims will have a place to go to whine about "elitism", and will give the few remaining dumb rednecks still living here a place to anonymously post racial slurs.

Now wait a minute??

I liked what T. Boone Pickens had to say about this. We need to say "no" to privatizing profits and socializing losses. No shit!

Worst part is we will be bailing out a lot of foreign banks and foreign debt. How the fuck does that make sense? We don't have enough of our own problems, let's just also buy the debt from non-US companies?????

Don't forget...nationalised healthcare is just around the corner! In 5-10 years, we'll basically be France, except we'll work hours than them.

We have socialized education, so it would seem the products of that education would be all for socializing everything.

However, Jack Black, I doubt socialized health care is anywhere around any corner. I could see some sort of program to provide health insurance at taxpayer expense to a certain segment of the population, most likely based on some income criteria, but there is just too much money being made in the health care industry and even though it is a highly dysfunctional system it still works well enough so that nobody is crying out for the government to come in and save the day.

I could see the oil industry being more likely to be socialized than the health care industry, with the way the industry is making record profits and almost every american is affected by the rise in gasoline prices and transportation costs. But even that is about as likely as the government suddenly becoming "of the people, by the people and for the people" anytime soon.

There's too many vested interests.

The Bush administration has been on spending spree since it got in office. I think the goal is to see if they could bankrupt the government.

Stimulus package, Iraq, Afghanistan, huge tax breaks for rich companies have all worked real well. Now they are giving taxpayer dollars to banks in foreign countries.

Good call, Bob. Point taken. Did we list Amtrak? Amtrak is ripe for the picking, if it hasn't been already

Amtrak was nationalized as a collection of several failing regional passenger rail companies in the 70's or 80's. I think, but am not sure that conrail was also a nationalization of freight, but was then privatized again later on.

I think they are done with the current round of nationalization, or at least will stick with the economic sector. That appears to be the mandate they believe they are operating under.

Of course, there will be future nationalization mandates after some future crises.

Yup. Socialism is the next logical step, whether we like it or not. Our version is a little different than the European version, but still socialism none-the-less. 50 years ago this would have been considered a "communist invasion". Our fellow citizens are more sympathetic to socialism than they were some generations ago.

It isn't "socialism", per se. It is this new thing on the block, Corporatism.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporatism

"Contemporary popular (as opposed to social science) usage of the term is more pejorative, emphasizing the role of business corporations in government decision-making at the expense of the public. The power of business to affect government legislation through lobbying and other avenues of influence in order to promote their interests is usually seen as detrimental to those of the public. In this respect, corporatism may be characterized as an extreme form of regulatory capture, and is also termed corporatocracy, a form of plutocracy. If there is substantial military-corporate collaboration it is often called militarism or the military-industrial complex."
