Where's GW in this economic turmoil?

"On Monday, the Dow Jones industrial average dropped 504 points, its worst drop since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. But Bush did not address the nation that night.

Instead, he held a state dinner for the president of Ghana. Gratin of Maine lobster, late-summer corn pudding, ginger-scented farm lamb and graham cracker crumble with cocoa pod shell was served. Eleven members of the cast of “The Lion King” came down from Broadway and performed. It was quite a bash. The Washington Post described President Bush and Ghanaian President John Kufuor as “ebullient.”

Yeah, but Shrub said yesterday in his two minute statement that he was closely 'monitoring the situation'. I know I felt better almost immediately.

I guess you guys don't read the news... if you mosey on over to an actual news source you'll see news of various plans that have the markets up worldwide, to the point where even after two days of staggering losses this week we could see the Dow positive for the week. Bush owns that, it's his people doing the work. So what if he's hosting a dinner? I don't give a shit as long as my portfolio ends up okay.

Oh, the markets are up? I guess the crisis is over and everybody can relax now. That was a close one.

I can see the point of all posts, but the clear allegation of the original post was the Bush was doing absolutely nothing this week, when it is now clear the administration was doing something. "conVince" didn't argue that the crisis was over, nor has anyone claimed the crisis is over. Fault Bush for a totally incompetent SEC, but even Democrats in Congress have expressed relief that the "Gang of Three" (Paulson, Bernanke, and Geithner) understand the issues (congresspeople don't) and can competently address them.

Look, I for one would like to see more of Bush attending dinners, reading from children's books, cutting ribbons, or whatever other relatively harmless activities we can find to keep him busy and not fucking anything else up. Anything he would add to the process would likely not be helpful. I don't have an awful lot of confidence that these bailouts are the right thing to do. They might be, they might not.

Harry Reid was pretty pathetic on this though. Granted, I wouldn't expect him to have an answer, but he is so dramatically worthless sometimes.

Glad to see they are doing something, not sure it is all good, but it is something.... We'll see.

All the politicians are worthless. All of them assign blame first, try to understand and solve problem second. They guys in the know (Gang of Three and guys like them) address problem first, try to take action to solve it, and assign blame under under duress at congressional hearings. Not to say they didn't help cause problems with prior policies, but pointing fingers will never solve anything no matter who is at fault for it. They can blame all they want after our credit markets and banking system are stabilized.

The truth is we are all to blame...

If you constantly are paying the minimum amount on your credit cards..you are to blame.

If your idea of success is to drive a new...expensive...gas guzzling SUV/sports car...you are to blame.

If you bought a larger house then you could afford...you are to blame.

If you leased a car so that you could buy more of a car then you could otherwise afford...you are to blame.

If you leveraged your home to pay for other then a child's education...medical bills or some other true emergency...you are to blame.

If you failed to save for a rainy day..you are to blame.

If you ever flipped a house for a quick profit...you are to blame.

If you really think budget deficits really don't matter..you are to blame.

Bottom line..there are no free lunches!

I didn't do any of those things--so we are ALL to blame.
