It's good to see that Bush is not sitting on his lead in his competition with James Buchanan for the title of "Worst President in History."
It was touch-and-go for a while, with the presumed success of the troop surge, but the financial crisis is really going to put Bush over the top. It's fantastic that the Republicans deregulate everything to "get government off of Wall Street's back", but are willing to bail these financial firms out when they fail. Where's your free market now?
The bailouts don't surprise me. You come to expect hypocrisy from the people who continually claim that government is too big, insist on lowering taxes, then spend like crazy on a war that is plain stupid.
Buchanan probably knew his crown was lost long ago. The election of 2000, the Sept. 11 attacks, and Bush's general stupidity made it clear that Dubya had God on his side. Buchanan never had a chance.
