Michigan GOP doesn't think everyone has the right to vote....

This is just absurd. The Michigan GOP has a plan to prevent homeowners who face foreclosure from casting a ballot in November.

Evidently people who have fallen on hard times during the Bush economy are no longer worthy of voting.

From FOX News....

These motherfuckers should be ashamed of themselves.

GOP policies helped you lose your home. Now they want to take away your right to vote. The TV ad writes itself. Good job, RNC. This should help Obama open up a nice lead in Michigan.

Sounds to me like they may have had a problem with voter registration
fraud in the past. Michigan has been eaten up with looney-toons like
ACORN.

Yeah, as opposed to the losers in the Michigan Militia and that wackjob Koernke that thinks McVeigh is a hero. Yup, Michigan never had any problems with "loonies" until ACORN.

Every time ACORN rears it's ugly head, it seems there is voter fraud going on. There are WELL documented cases of this pattern, and many convictions for this problem. In Virginia when they called for an investigation into it the Democrats decried voter suppression and wouldn't allow an investigation to proceed. And of course Obama worked for them and received $800K in campaign contributions from them this year.

So here we have a situation setup, where there are obvious fraudulent voter activities going on, and essentially what the Michigan folks are saying is that they are going to challenge voters whose homes have been foreclosed if they are voting where their homes were. Is that heartless? No. It is what makes sense - if the voters still reside in the area or can legally vote, it will not stop them from being allowed to vote. These calls for suppressing voter rights are just intended to intimidate people from doing their jobs - ever since the 2000 election this has become an endless problem, and neither side is going to fix it.

Obama Ties to ACORN:

Each State is allowed to establish their own rules in determining how their Electoral votes are cast, but it seems that the States need to come up with a plan for ensuring that voters get 1 vote, and only 1 vote in an election. If you have ever looked into issues of voter fraud and voter suppression tactics (from BOTH sides) you would see that this is not a black and white issue. It is in all of our interests to ensure that only people that have the right to vote actually do vote, right? Would you want your vote canceled by the votes of 5 non-existent people? Because that is what we are talking about.

As far as the claims - the guy quoted has stated emphatically that it is not what he said, and they are looking into taking the Michigan Messenger to court.

Suggesting that people going thru foreclosure cannot vote achieves just the opposite of that.

And as far as voter fraud is concerned, it should not be a slap on the wrist. It should be automatic jail time. Throw some of these idiots in prison for five years to let people know that it is taken seriously.

If he actually said that - sure it was a stupid thing to even suggest. Somehow based on the reporting of the issue, and what the person quoted has said, I doubt that is exactly what he said, but is more likely a paraphrasing of what he said in a way that gave it a completely different meaning. It happens on both sides.

That is why I try to use regular newspapers or other sources to make my points. I don't like going with a story that any blogger site puts forth as their take.

FYI, the story was published by FOX News, which is fair and balanced.

No, they reported on the story about the story. The Michigan Messenger is the one that put out the story that started it.

Again, reading what you post from is always good when making assertions about what it says.

From the FoxNews Article:
Quote

...

The legal case stems from comments in an article attributed to the Republican Party chairman of Macomb County. The story, “Lose Your House, Lose Your Vote,” appeared on the liberal Michigan Messenger Web site.

The site quoted Chairman James Carabelli as saying, “We will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren’t voting from those addresses.”

Carabelli denies he made the remarks.

“It was never said like that,” he told FOXNews.com Tuesday, minutes after the Obama campaign announced its lawsuit, filed in federal court in Michigan, seeking “injunctive relief” against the local GOP actions.

“There never was” such a plan,” Carabelli said. “Never.”

He said he would likely file charges against Michigan Messenger, though he did not say what the charges would be.

Reporting a story about a story is actually reporting the story.
