Which Asian language do you feel sounds the worst and best?
Posted by: 933127 ()

The following choices are: Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese (Cantonese), Tagalong (Filipino).

Japanese is not listed because there are few to almost no Japanese immigrants here in Virginia, they are pretty much only found in California and Hawaii.

Mandarin sounds like sneezing. Vietnamese sounds asymmetric in its tonality. Conversely, Thai sounds smooth. Have not heard Cantonese and I assume Tagolag is primitive clicking and gutteral throat sounds.

Korean probably sounds abrasive because all of its speakers are racist, arrogant fucks. They are like the Jews of Asia, even down to the point of letting their own country's fucked up problems dominate our politics.

While I find most Asian languages to sound rather unpleasant, without a doubt I CANNOT STAND the sound of Vietnamese. It sounds like the speaker is literally retarded and also has some sort of speech impediment. The sound of it literally makes me cringe....and many of them sound as bad when they attempt to speak English.

I worked in Japan for while, and while that language sounds a bit harsh, it may be my favorite in that region, because it is a least crisp...and sounds less like a retard convention is in town...or cats wailing at night.

Korean is the worse by far.

Ever wonder what English sounds like to someone that doesn't speak it? I'm sure all the Asians find English very annoying and strange sounding.

I'm married to a Chinese woman and speak a little Mandarin. All the Asian languages are tonal...sung rather than spoke which explains why they like karaoke so much.

Mandarin has only 4 tones...Vietnamese has 12. Because of the French influence Vietnamese also have an Anglicized alphabet. Mandarin is easy to learn as there are few grammar rules. Vietnamese is difficult to speak because of the tones...though Vietnamese who speak English have a relaxed, peaceful cadence.

I agree that Korean is the roughest. Even my Korean friends tell me their spoken language sounds like they are in a gunfight...though I believe the Koreans become the best English speakers because unlike the Japanese and Chinese they don't have the problem with "L" and "R" sounds...it's a point I tease my wife unmercifully. We even amuse our friends with an improve comedy routine on the difference. Unlike many Asians my wife has an hilarious sense of humor.

It's not necessarily the language -- it's the accent. Chinese sonds fine. However, there's some mainland China accents that are like finger nails on a chalkboard to me. They speak Mandarin with an extra cringe-worthy flair.

Worst are Chinese and Vietnamese. Hideous indeed.

The best are Korean and Japanese, which makes sense since the sound of the language is actually similar. Of course, if spoken angrily or curtly even both of these will sound unpleasant.

Ok we've got the comments on Asian language. How about a new direction?

If you have the ability for "hocking a lunger", and bring it from way down with in you can speak Hebrew!

NO, they're NOT all tonal, fuckwad, and tonal doesn't mean sung rather than spoke you retard.

If by 12 you mean 6 at the most or 5 in some areas, then yes, you stupid asshole farang.

I pulled tours in Thailand and Vietnam while I was in the Army and found Thai to be much easier to learn than Vietnamese. The only problem was I was stationed in the northeast where they speak the Isan dialect and when in Bangkok the people don't understand you very well if at all.

I have to agree that Korean sounds harshest to American ears. Their fillers - our "um and "hmms" sounds are especially grating on the ears - but I also agree that their English is usually better than other native Asian speakers. Cambodians who speak English run their words together and I have a tough time understanding them. Native Vietnamese speakers don't seem to grasp our rules of grammar and their sentences are often nonsensical. Have you ever received an email in English from a native Vietnamese speaker? It's indecipherable.

I think you have these reversed....

Korean (Hangul) is a very smooth language that is chopped up with elders who use accent sounds that are easliy mistaken with coughing up a lung.

Thai and Tagalog sound like chicken fighting.

First Korean and Japanese do not sound similar, dont know how u got that impression.

Second, Japanese is one of the best sounding languages in the world...

Steam boat, in real life, ur probably a lonely lil ugly fella that lacks education.

And finally, no one gives a damn about any of ur life and tribulations. The question was simple,"which Asian language sounds the worst and best". There wasnt an "explain ur lifes story" option or ur "sexual fantasizes".

Topics like these somehow always attracts the most uneducated people. Its like a bunch of dumb fucks playing gangster the gathering.

Korean, Japanese and Mongolian are agglutinative languages. They sound the best to me, but I am biases because I have studied both Korean and Japanese.

Tagalog is like a type of pigeon language to me, since they use a lot of cognates, but it sounds nice.

Chinese is not bad sounding and yes the tones are key -- the grammar is simple.

Mandarin is more smooth sounding to me than Cantonese.

Ex-GF's family spoke Cantonese and it also seemed like her father was shouting at me -- maybe he was and maybe I was a lucky survivor.

Vietnamese is rough on my brain.

Thai sounds nice.

BTW, OP there are lots of Japanese who live in MD, in the Rockville Area.

A more interesting discussion would be about the cultures of Asia.

Japanese and Korean DO NOT sound a like at all! Japanese normally is spoken very polite and respectful while the Korean language is a little more harsh sounding to the american ear and is really similar to the Mongolian language

I’m surprised Mongolian isn’t on this list. It’s by far the worst sounding of any Asian language. Klingon sounds more eloquent in comparison.

Mandarin sounds bad. Too many "shh" and "err" sounds. It's genuinely painful to listen to. I give it a 3/10.

Cantonese sounds weird... but endearing, in a funny sort of way. I give it a 6/10.

Vietnamese sounds funny. Period. I give it a 3/10.

Thai sounds gentle and feminine, but maybe a bit too much, so it's hard to take it seriously. I give it a 6/10.

Mongolian sounds rugged and tough. I give it a 7/10.

Korean sounds okay in speech, but it sounds great in music. I give it a 7/10 for speaking and 9/10 for singing.

Japanese sounds good and smooth, but it sounds very basic and lacks depth. I give it an 8/10.

I'm not familiar with other Asian languages.
