Ha! Gone with the Wind. It was the Greatest Film Ever because it was made by a Northern Jew...

...and starred a Brit...

....and a Yankee...

If it had been made by Southerners, starring Southerners, it would have been an unwatchable piece of shit.

The book (which is often hailed superior to the film) was written by a Southerner!

India Wilkes was played by Alicia Rhett of Charleston, SC

Sue Ellen O'Hara was played by Eveyln Keyes of Atlanta, GA

Brett Tarleton was played by Fred Crane of New Orleans, LA

So you were saying it didn't star Southerners?

The book itself was written by Margaret Mitchell- a Southerner.

That's exactly right. When I think of the STARS of Gone with the Wind, I think of Fred Crane and Alicia Rhett.

I'm sure the Best Boy was probably from the South as well.

I think you missed my point. If it weren't for Southern writer Margaret Mitchell- there would have been no book Gone With The Wind, therefor, no film either.

Gone With the Wind was nothing more then a soap opera before soap operas existed. It was a lousy historical movie. The best movie ever made is one that probably all of us have watched multiple times and all know the at least 2 songs from and 2 lines....The Wizard of Oz!

I only watch the Wizard of Oz at thanksgiving or christmass time with the sound turned down and Dark Side of the moon synced up.

does that really work? and at what point in the movie do you turn the dark side on? By the way...this supports my point..Oz even has a cult following.

Me and some friends did that like ten years ago, and yes, there are some weird audio/visual timing coincidences between the album and the movie. I can also attest that it's sort of a waste of time- it's not anything you'll find too interesting. I forget the exact timing sequence for queueing up the movie with the album, but I think you had to start the album when the MGM lion roared before the film started, something like that.

I heard if you play Meade Skelton's last album while watching Deliverance, the coincidences are amazing.

GWTW was NOT a Soap Opera! I hate soap operas, so how could it be? GWTW is deeper on many levels. Only an ignorant person would call it a Soap. Altough in the 2nd half- it does get soapier. But its more an Epic Novel turned into an Epic film .

I know I agree! GWTW may be more approporaitely called a Civil War Mellodrama at worst, but its definitely NOT a Soap Opera. This is my dad's favorite film and he is defintely not a fan of Soap Operas.

Anyone who calls this film that, its obviously missing the subtext and the many layers of the film/book its so deep actualy there are several stories within a story

Not to mention in the movie- there are so much. There's Drama, Comedy, Action, Adventure, Romance, and Suspence- all in one film!

Soap Opera my ass!

Gone with the Wind was actually a revolutionary film the year it was released. If you compare it to similar films at the time, you never saw a full-color film with outdoor cinematography on that scale. It is harder to appreciate it now because we have had decades of movies that copied its formula. But from a technical achievement standpoint, Gone with the Wind was the Star Wars, Matrix, 300 of its day.

Maybe if CHewbaca, Agent smith and Sparticus were IN gone with the wind it would be a watchable Movie.

Agent Smith replicates Rhett Butler and attacks Scarlett

"Good evening Ms SCARR-let."

Chewbacca rips head off agent smith Clone

"Raaaarrraaarrrrr"

Like i said, people want to label GWTW as a mere MeloDrama/Romance film, and its simply so much more.

There are layers and layers of the book/film- the symbolism and such , We studied the film in my course at college, and I always loved it, but was amazed at how much more there is to this story than just Rhett and Scarlett.

I think mostly some Northerners dont like GWTW because they're not portrayed in that lie of wonderful abolitionists who were all about "freeing slaves". GWTW is actually far more historically accurate to what really happened.

I also learned that Margaret Mitchell was no fly-by-night novelist but did pain staking research of what went on in Atlanta before and after the war- true accounts, how people lived, what the looked like, and based all her characters on that. Also some characters were based on her own family

Her grandmother lived on a plantation outside of Atlanta and was the daughter of an Irish Catholic father and French mother- just like Scarlett.

Rhett Butler was presumably her first husband...

Okay, well if peopel dont want to appreciate great art like Gone With The wind, thats their loss.

I saw it on the big screen in 1998 and it was mesmorizing!

It is kinda spooky to see Dorothy walking on the top rail of the fence with her arms stretched out while the band sings "Balanced on the biggest wave..." Also, listen to the band to sing "work, work is done" and see what happens on the screen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmCfvcfHwKA

It is well documented several members of the band Pink Floyd have or had mental oddities; like being idiot savants. An obsession with a movie, self actualized or not, is not out of the question for these types.

Also, Allan Parsons, the producer that claims no knowledge of the sync, also was heavily involved in the audio recording of the Beetles "Abbey Road," an album that had several "inside jokes" hidden in its tracks.
