I feel sad about Patrick Swayze
Posted by: TRICKIE ()

I just loved all his movies but especially Dirty Dancing. The news reports say he has pancreatic cancer and only five weeks to live. I don't know how they know the exact number of weeks because only God knows that. The weird thing is we went on vacation to Turks and Caicos inSeptember and he was staying at the Regency Palms resort right next to our hotel. We saw him and his wife on the beach and in the restaurant at the Palms. he looked very healthy then. I resisted the urge to ask him to hold me up over the water above his head the way he held Baby in the film. Well I am going to go listen to "She's Like the Wind" and then watch Ghost and Road House and Dirty Dancing tonight and cry. I hope he does not suffer for long.

In Mourning for Johnny Castle,

Trickie

Bummer. I was never a fan of his movies, but his role as the christian motivational speaker in Donnie Darko was real funny. There was also great scene in the movie Gummo where some weird albino lady talks about how she is in love with Swayze.

Actually the report stating he only has 5 weeks to live was incorrect. As reported in the Washington Post:

"Patrick Swayze is being treated for pancreatic cancer but is doing well enough to continue working, his representative said Wednesday. The "Dirty Dancing" actor has a very limited amount of disease and appears to be responding well to treatment, according to Dr. George Fisher, Swayze's physician."

I don't know if the guy has five weeks, five months or five days. All I know is that pancreatic cancer is usually a death sentence. I remember when Michael Landon was diagnosed with it. He "went back to work" too. A month later he was dead.

Trickie.

I loved all his movies, too.

It is weird that you were in the hotel right next to Patrick, back in September. Here is something even weirder. My husband and I were staying in the Regency Palms Resort at that same time. We saw him often and he was so kind and considerate. Once, when we were on the elevator, he stepped aside so I could easily exit the elevator. (I use a walker)

Good thing you resisted that urge to ask him to hold you up over the water above his head…… can’t imagine that image. LOL.

His best acting was when he pulled out the dude's heart in Road House.
Hopefully he boned the big nosed chick in DD.

My friend had pancreatic cancer. It took him in a month. I have never heard of anyone coming close to beating that kind of cancer. I hear it is the quickest of any type.
When first diagnosed he looked ok. Within a couple of weeks he looked like a death camp prisoner.
It sucks and then some.

Apparently Steve Jobs had a rare form of pancreatic cancer that responded to surgery. That is the exception, not the rule, though. If Swayze is incredibly lucky, maybe he has the rare form.

I believe he was a throat ripper in that movie.

Incidentally, Jeff Healy just died of cancer. Could there a cancer-curse at the Double Douche?

Is Sam Elliot going to be diagnosed next?

"Is Sam Elliot going to be diagnosed next?" We can only hope Nick Nolte will. What a pathetic loser he's turned out to be....

This is an interesting thread. Kleek, that is totally ironic that you also stayed at the regeny Palms. We were right next door at the Alexandra resort in a condo. We came to the Palms all the time. In fact, their spa is the nicest I have ever seen. I had a pedicure there that set me back $120 but it was worth it.

Yes Patrick Swayze looked healthy each time I saw him. His wife and he havew been together forever- a rarity in Hollywood.

Oh and 496. That big nosed chick in Dirty Dancing was jennifer Grey. She got a nose job and has never looked the same. Plus all her acting roles dried up too. She was Ferris's bitchy sister in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. (Sorry for the bad word, but she was!!!!)

Nick Nolte hasn't looked good in years. I think he uses drugs and alcohol too much. He was good in Teaqchers tho.

Well now I will watch Patrick in The Outsiders. That was one of his first movies. Poor guy. I am also going to light a candle for him at my church.

I heard the same thing today about Steve Jobs. I hope Swayze can beat it.

It wasnt that long ago my friend died. Maybe I just wasnt prepared for how quick he died and how quick it can destroy the human body.

I'm going to watch Ghost tonight. I love that movie.

Trickie, yep, those pedicures/facials, etc. will set you back a few bucks. My problem was the mini bar. I had no idea how much those little bottles cost.. Despite being somewhat bleary eyed when I checked out, I noticed the EXTRA charges and was like WTF. Well, the hotel management was very kind to me and agreed to knock off a few hundred from my bill since it was clear I thought it was complimentary.

I would definitely go back to this place.

John Lennon was the only tragic thing, the rest meaningless.

Pancreatic cancer does seem to take its victims quickly. I guess it's usually discovered too late for any good survival rates. I haven't seen reports indicating what stage cancer he has. The report, though, regarding his life expectancy of only 5 weeks was printed in The Inquirer, soooooo..

496, nice pic, you got there. Someday, in what really amounts to a blink of the eye, when one ponders the concept of time, that is exactly how you will look. That is, after the worms and insects go at you. I guess all you're left with is your soul, wherever that ends up.

Save time and money get cremated. Then have the ashes scattered. That way a bunch of goth kids wont be trying to dig you up to cast a spell on someone using your bones.

Keep your Dirty Dancing, your Ghost and your Point Break. There is only one Patrick Swayze performance for the ages...
