I need to take a one day trip to a west coast city. Hopefully leave 20th come back on 21st. No it is not for drugs or anything like that, just business I would like to take care of before end of year.
I havent flown in years. What is the best way to get a cheap flight and is standby what I should try for and please give me the simple answer.

and btw, having a goal of making this trip before the end of the year is not very wise.. or should i say, trying to plan a flight, at the most, 13 days in advance (not to mention, during the holiday season) is very stupid... at this point the prices are ridiculously high..

on top of that, this time of year, the airports are comparable to hell...

Good luck trying to find low fares this late in the game. Check with the links that bdimag posted. Direct flights will cost you. Look for flights with a short layover. Avoid standby, or else you'll be in the airport for a very long time.

Are you flying for business purposes or "business purposes"? If it's for legit business purposes, go through your employer. Most have corporate accounts where they flip the bill.
