Apple paid $0 corporate taxes on $74 billion... anywhere
Posted by: Occupy Apple ()

Apple Inc. [AAPL +2.23%] paid no corporate income tax to any national government on tens of billions of dollars in overseas income over the past four years, Senate investigators found, a revelation that fuels the debate over whether the U.S. tax code needs an overhaul.

Apple used technicalities in Irish and American tax law to pay little or no corporate taxes on at least $74 billion over the past four years, according to the Senate panel's findings. The investigation found no evidence that Apple did anything illegal. Aides to the subcommittee said they have never seen a company use a subsidiary that didn't owe corporate income taxes to any country.

Apple didn't dispute that entities it set up didn't pay corporate taxes but denied they were designed to avoid taxes...

*cough*bullshit*cough*

Apple may not pay taxes but look at all the jobs they create! Id rather tax the hell out of a middle class family that creates no jobs than ask a dime of uber-job Creator Apple. Leave Apple alone and focus on working deadbeats imho

So you feel the same way about the oil industry which pays billions in U S taxes and creates jobs but is demonized by obama on a daily basis.

The question obtains as to the quality of the jobs they create, how many of them, and where are they created? If Apple creates 50,000 jobs in China that pay 70 cents an hour and the working conditions are so awful that they've got workers suiciding regularly there, is that really an accomplishment? If a lowly Apple engineer in California makes $80K a year but has to work 100 hour weeks to ship the latest and greatest gizmo, is that an accomplishment?

Apple seems to be good at two things: delivering stylish but often technically mediocre crap to its audience of true believers at the highest price possible, and ruthlessly squeezing every last penny's worth of work out of its workforce.

I guess we can also add creatively moving its profits around its web of corporate entities to avoid paying a single dime of taxes on its massive profits to that list of things Apple's good at.

The quote above was a fake post from ferfux gerrymander who gets abused in every thread and proven to both be an idiot and a liar.

Of course apple should pay taxes just like every other company. The true hypocrisy about apple is how the OWS crowd and ultra liberals all claim to hate big business yet you always see them on the ipads and iphones ect.

Apple seems to get a free pass from the anti corporation crowd because they make things they like and they arent microsoft, when the ironic part is apply probably has more money than microsoft at this point.

Companies shouldnt be taxed to hell, but they should pay taxes no one had ever disputed that

Apple does pay taxes just like any other company. They also minimize their tax bill just like any other company. Apple has done nothing wrong, they have some of the best tax attorneys and take advantage of the laws. We all do the same thing when we file our personal taxes.

Speaking of employment:
Apple employs 50,250 people in the US and supports another 257,000 employees at other companies. These people are paying a boatload of taxes.

It creates an unlevel playing field between companies in the US as many companies are purely domestic service companies.

Are you kidding? When has our tax code ever been a level playing field? It is frequently used for social architecture and political whims. Domestic service companies (whatever those are) are doing their best to minimize their tax burden just as Apple is.

Im as pro business as its gets and have no problem with apple or who they employ who the products they provide.

Having a 0 net due company rate for one of if not the richest companies on earth though just shows how broken the tax code is. Same goes for GE. Its not that either did anything wrong by taking advantage of whats there, it just exposes holes in the system.

Like I said they shouldnt be taxed to hell like a lot of people want now but they shouldnt pay 0 either.

Charge them a flat 15-20 percent which would make us very competitive for having things based in the US and allow a lot of other businesses to pay less while ending up with more money over all. Id actually argue for 15 percent since higher wages have to be paid in the US with more benefits so you need a lower tax rate to offset the cheaper labor in other countries.

Although your statement is true, its irreverent to my post.

You must be one of those that gets over taxed.

The key word was "try".
Put the Kool-Aid down and read it again.

The private sector effectively writes many of the laws.

I recall there's even a corporate-backed group that lobbies the state assemblies to pass legislation to benefit their members. Remember the illegal alien detention laws that were pushed by private prison companies.

i read it. so if nobody tried to overtax them, then i suppose they would have paid a reasonable tax rate, because they wouldn't be super-smart and angry, just super-smart.

we'll, i am probably overtaxed, not because i have some foolish belief that government is funded by magic, but because apple and those that "earn" their wealth via stocks pay a less percent of than income than me.

less percentage = a whole lot more than you pay

Even with the legal loopholes, they paid way more than you did. They also created more jobs than you, and sold more items that were taxed than you....they generated commerce which in turn helped our economy. But, your right, they should pay a higher percentage of their earnings in taxes than you. There is no "fair share" of taxes unless you go with a flat tax rate for all.

Fair share is nothing but a youth ephism for wealth redistribution and to justify taking more from others. There is nothing fair about about taxes and tax rates.
