Serious political question...
Posted by: brawny ()
Date: May 19, 2013 10:32PM

When do people think the GOP will win the white house again? I'm serious. The last 2 primaries (and really the last 4 since everyone knows Bush/Cheney was a fucking train wreck) have been riddled with candidates one step away from the looney bin (arguably, a few of them should have been there to begin with).

Who has the best shot at beating Hillary in 2016? I would guess Christie or Bloomberg (2 folks I would seriously consider voting for).

He was a rising star until he gave the creepy response to the State of the Union address one year. Once that disastrous video emerges again, he can kiss his indian-creole ass goodbye. Fuck that was scary to watch. His smile looked painful and somewhat reminiscent of Mr. Burns (simpson) smile.

The GOP can never again win the White House. Obama has locked up the majority of votes for democrats with food stamps, welfare and other assorted free things. Why would anyone currently receiving those entitlements take a chance on losing them.

They were already in place before he got there champ. (Carey, any way to lock down a thread so people with proven IQ's over 30 can respond?)

Honestly? The chances of the GOP winning the presidency again are very high. After 8 years of Obama, I seriously question how many people will vote for another Democrat. This is coming from a Democrat, by the way.

Anybody who appeals to the center has a chance of winning.

Am I the only one who laughed seeing Bloomburgs name thrown in there?

But yes its very likely the GOP will win in 2016, the last two two term presidents weve had the other party won after with Bush being the one in recent memory to win after Regan. I dont think anyone in their right mind thinks Biden could win so we can throw that out the window.

Bloomberg? That's a strange choice. He's barely even a Republican in name. The only reason that he was at one point was that he changed parties to run as a Republican because he knew he couldn't win the Democrat primary and the Republicans don't even bother to field any serious candidates in NYC.

Even if he somehow ran as an independent there's not even a remote possibility with his gun positions and all of the social control that stuff he's done.

The GOP never had a good candidate. They fuckin suck is the problem. They're not built to lead. They're negative assholes. A President is the executive leader of the nation whom must care about the safety and well being of its people. All Republicans care about is the safety and concentration of their wealth while dividing the masses.

So, because of the true platform of the Republican Party, not the one for public consumption, they never manage to produce an appealing candidate. It's with good reason that occurs. It's not just bad luck.

See, the GOP looks for a candidate that can fool people into thinking he cares rather than a candidate that actually cares. Therein lies the problem.

Agree he's not a straight GOP per se, but like Christie, I like his straightforwardness.

Let's flip the question and ask if the 2016 election were held today, who do the Democrats have, aside from Hilary, that is likely to win. 2012 was a great opportunity for Republicans to trot out all the potential candidates and determine who might work and who is bat shit crazy.

And they all turned out to be bat shit crazy.

And, looking over EVERYONE left, they're STILL all bat shit crazy.

[though I think she's WAY qualified - US Senator, Secretary of State, etc etc etc, it's not clear to me that Ms. Clinton WILL run for the presidency - that is, I think it would be a mistake to assume she's going to be the Democratic candidate]

Aside from Hillary, not sure who else. I think if she throws her hat in the ring, and I think she will, I'm not sure anyone else will run against her. Down the road, i like Webb and have seen Harold Ford on a few of the talking head shows and he seemed quite capable (but I see that his voting record is not that blue).

The democrats could run Stewie Griffin and win. Obama has stocked the shelves with free shit. Only a fool would jump the democrats ship of food stamps, welfare and obamaphones to vote Republican. Romney lost their vote when he said he was going to put people back to work. A four letter word democrats do not want to hear.

Agreed Jindal jumped the shark in the SOTU rebuttal - 'volcano monitoring?!?' months later a volcano erupted in Alaska http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/23/jindal-vs-palin-on-volcan_n_178120.html

Perhaps, if Grumpy Old Party gets its shit together, the Repubes could regain the WH in 2024.

I'm not holding my breath, but it's possible.

They might win if the old white guys and gun toting rednecks left the party, but then who'd be left?

Seriously, this party needs to split away from the wackos and the more centrist might pull in a few of the blue dog dems to make it a decent race for a change.

if a sane republican would stand up and run, he would have a chance at national office, but the catch is he'd have to run as an independent.

the party itself has careened to the right in the last 30 years, catering to the low information troglodytes (many of which post on this board, apparently).

any sane republican would never make it past the primary. that's why they're all lockstep in the house -- if any of them try to think for themselves, they'll be challenged and defeated from the right.

McCain was a moderate who sold himself as a maverick. The conservative base hated him. Romney was able to overcome the disfavor of most evangelical's, but could not win over the Reagan democrats or white middle-of-the-road women, who apparently sat 2012 out.

Facts are 180º opposite of your hyperbole and nonsense. Only someone to the left of Mao would think Obama is less of a partisan than McCain or Romney were. You appear to fit that bill comrade.

Short version or long version?

Short version: He was the first affirmative action president, and the media has been hailing him in all but name as King Barack I. Outside of actual sources (Politico and the like), he doesn't really get criticized. He takes blame for nothing, but credit for everything. He doesn't know how to create jobs, but still gets credit for the recent stock market boom caused by interest rates.

Long version: All of the above plus a whole lot more.

McCain's judgment is what got me. His "play" to the base with Palin was just plain dumb and showed extreme poor decisioning skills. Not to mention all the fly back to washington at the last minute fiasco during the debates.

what you need, aside from a basic education, is a lincoln chafee type candidate, only with charisma. somebody who is fiscally conservative while at the same time is willing to tell the tea party and the conservative christians to go fuck themselves.

Think about this, the GOP has not won a presidential election since 1928 without a Bush or Nixon on the ticket.
