The Real Presidential Issues

Ok we know;

1) We know Obama is black
2) We know McCain was once in the Military
3) We know Sarah Palin is a woman
4) We know Palin's daughter is pregnant

Now let's get to issues that have some value in the election

1) Should we cut off oil dependency and start developing new fuels?

We seem to try this every time oil goes up in price and then we just forget about it. I'm so sick of oil, let's dedicate NASA to building better fuels and less trips to Mars to see if there was once water on Mars. Save a billion right there.

2) Health care?

I'm all for everybody having Health care, but they have to work also. Keep the current system and modify it with subsidies. If you want a better a doctor you pay for it.

3) Unemployment?

Every American who wants to work should be allowed to work, find them government jobs picking up trash. Restructure immigration polices to allow workers in the country, aggressively go after those who break the rules with "US sweat shops."

4) The banking mess?

In servere cases the government should help people reorganize their finances so they are not homeless. However, if somebody bought a $$$ mansion and couldn't afford the loan or was doing flips, so be it, they need to move to a smaller house or apt and sell the place. Banks that did bad loans will have to close. They took the risk. FDIC will protect peoples savings accounts.

5) The war in Iraq?

We made a mistake, there were no weapons of mass destruction, glad to see that Sadam is gone, we need to get out. Bring our troops home and outfit some elite units to strike at major terrorists around the World.

Ok feel free to respond and add your own issues-

Actually not a bad list. I may not agree with all of it, but that is ok.

I would argue on the NASA point though. Without wars (usually the impetus for some of our fastest leaps in technology), you need to have something that will challenge folks to keep pushing the envelope for moving the bar. Pioneering was one of the biggest ways to keep expanding the horizon, and keeping the spark alive in folks that there was still more to learn from our world, and now our solar system, and maybe one day, the rest of the universe. For now, we keep it small like Mars and Europa and places like that.

Space exploration and the technology that goes with it, is one of the ways we can continue to make our lives better, and also possibly identify natural resources that we can use to supplement our current use, and maybe someday make it so we no longer have to destroy and pollute our world to provide the means to run it. Asteroids may turn out to be good sources of raw materials for providing future fuels. So we really do need to keep exploration of Space and the Oceans a top priority. The more we can focus on that, perhaps we can keep from having more wars in the future - although where man goes, conflict surely follows hmm?

Republikans cant discuss these issues...because they have no plans except more of the same! So instead we'll have to listen to McSame/Palin's screeching and whining!

How long do we have to look for these weapons of mass destruction in Iraq?

We should be done by another trillion dollars more, or so.

This thread sure has been a lesson, nobody wants to talk real issues about the United States. I can certainly understand why the Republicans want to distract from real issues, their record sucks. But, Obama playing that game and responding to High School name calling? Sad

Or increase the Mars budget and modify the mission to include a goal of getting there in 2/3 the time. NASA can then research innovative energy technologies that we can then transfer to Earth uses.
