At 17, Bristol and Levi, 18, planned to get married, even before she sealed the deal and got knocked up. Is this normal for a 17 year old girl to want to get married right out of high school, or does it tell us something about Sarah's parenting skills?

Sarah has continually place Trig in Bristol's arms, as if Bristol is the hired nanny. Weird, huh?

Sarah is a supporter of "abstinence only" teaching; does this parenting philosophy drive teenage girls away from their mother, or act as a catalyst for teenage girls to have unprotected sex?

Levi is an 18 year old "redneck," that doesn't want kids, and will "Kick your ass" if he feels like it. Does Sarah allowing Bristol to marry this clown display clearly Sarah hates Bristol, and doesn't care about Bristol's safety and well being? Bristol doesn't have to marry this immature jerk, "soon" as Sarah says; but Sarah is pushing it. As we all know, there is no law on getting married if you are having a child together. As a matter of fact, there are lots of laws that can help Bristol out concerning not getting married and having a child. Why is Sarah pushing or allowing marriage on her high school age daughter?


Sarah clearly is not looking out for Bristol's best interest; is it because Sarah feels she needs to set aside her family to further her own political career? According to the Post this morning, Sarah has been holed up in a Marriott suite in Minnesota for the last few days, preparing for tonight's speech in which she will tout "Conservative values." She needs to be with her family; something's are more important. But then again, I am not Sarah Palin.

She clearly hates her daughter Bristol.

I dont know if she hates anyone..but she has shown her family does not come first in her life. And that is fine....if you have a nutruting father to take your place or you decide to have a small family.

Bristol Palin should not mary this guy, and her mother hasn't thought this through. When Bristol marries Levi, she will no longer be on Mom and Dad's health insurance because she is no longer their dependent.

Levi will have to provide health insurance for her.

Does Levi even know what health insurance is, other than a safety on a rifle?

Even if Palin doesn't win, the child can write a book called "Dreams of my Grandmother." Or the child can be running for President one day. I find it interesting that people on here think that this is somehow a bad thing for the child; as if the child might end up sersiously disturbed. First, I would point out that this is rural Alaska. People get married much younger and have children much earlier. Second, if getting pregnant at an early age, then marrying, then giving birth a couple of months later is so detrimental to the child, why do you support a man for President who comes from that exact same background?

I've heard some species that do eat their young, but never humans. Second the tense is wrong, it should say "Why DID Sarah Palin ate her daughter?"

If anything, the Palin family is just demonstrating to the American public that they have many of the same problems as many families. In fact, wasn't Obama's mother unwed and only 18 years old when she became pregant with your savior? On February 2, 1961 Obama's mother and his future absentee father were married. Six months later on August 4, 1961 Obama was born. Has anyone questioned the maturity level of Obama's mother or the parenting skills or her own parents yet?

There is no innuendo about her daughter being forced to marry this guy because of the campaign. When she got pregnant, she hid from him. He didn't even know she was pregnant until this weekend! As for the McVeigh sympathizer, the AIP sympathized with McVeigh right after he blew up the building in Oklahoma City. They talked to the Anchorage Daily News about it. Palin's husband was a member of AIP at the time and Palin attended the AIP convention in 1996 (a year after the bombing). She may not personally be a sympathizer, but she obviously associates with them.

I won't hold it against Bristol's child, if 45 years from now he/she decides to run for President. I don't have any problem with Bristol, either. She's just a poor kid trying to live her life. I do have major problems with Sarah Palin, however. Since she has been thrust upon us with virtually no one having any clue who she is and with only a couple of months till election day--everything is fair game for scrutiny. She holds up her family as one of her major qualifications so she has put it on the table to be evaluated. Republicans talk about their 'family values' so let's have a look. Biden was an incumbent senator and wasn't running for VP in 2002. Who knows how he would have handled it if this happened last week.

I can't speak for Sarah Palin but perhaps she is trying to convince her daughter do the right thing given her pregnancy. This whole ordeal would be a private family matter anyway if it hadn't been for irresponsible, mudslinging Democrats who created the BS story about Palin faking her own pregnancy to cover up her daughters.

I'd much rather have my daughter throw a bottle at a cop than to get knocked up by some shithead Kid Rock-wannabe.

Actually, published reports have said Governor Palin tried to get Bristol to secretly marry this dude this upcoming weekend, and was planning on making the announcement next week that Bristol was pregnant and married. Bristol didn’t go for it. At least two media organizations, the Anchorage Daily News and the National Enquirer, contacted the family of Levi Johnston on Labor Day informing them they were going to press with the story, and they couldn’t reach a holed up Sarah. The RNC, just hours later, sent out the press release informing the public Bristol was five months pregnant and getting married.

I am extremely disappointed in the choice of Sarah Palin as the Vice Presidential candidate of the Republican Party. I will still vote for Senator McCain, because I am very concerned about having a fundamental leftist, especially one who is a marvelous orator, as President.

At first, I thought it amusing that McCain picked a pretty, smart, and tough female to counter the racist/sexist accusations going back and forth between parties. I remember how Oprah Winfrey got caught in the cross-fire as she stepped up to the political table to support Obama with pride that a black man could rise to such heights in the USA, only to get slammed by feminists who told her it was gender, not race, that she should back. Understandably, Ms. Winfrey pulled back from it all.

Forget gender and race. I’m frankly and sadly caught in the dilemma of having to balance policy versus example in touting a candidate for the office of the First Family. I was ferociously attacked (what’s new?) when I spoke out strongly against Bill Clinton’s dalliances in the Oval Office. That situation quickly turned into a debate whether “private has anything to do with public.” Nonsense. Role models are very important. Children and young adults look to those who are visible and successful as a road map of what is acceptable behavior and emulate those actions over the morals and values their parents and churches have taught and tried to reinforce. It’s a tough go these days, when the “bad that men or women do” is used for entertainment purposes without judgment, or is excused because of political or financial considerations.

I’m stunned - couldn’t the Republican Party find one competent female with adult children to run for Vice President with McCain? I realize his advisors probably didn’t want a “mature” woman, as the Democrats keep harping on his age. But really, what kind of role model is a woman whose fifth child was recently born with a serious issue, Down Syndrome, and then goes back to the job of Governor within days of the birth?

I am haunted by the family pictures of the Palins during political photo-ops, showing the eldest daughter, now pregnant with her own child, cuddling the family’s newborn. When Mom and Dad both work full-time (no matter how many folks get involved with the children), it becomes a somewhat chaotic situation. Certainly, if a child becomes ill and is rushed to the hospital, and you’re on the hotline with both Israel and Iran as nuclear tempers are flaring, where’s your attention going to be? Where should your attention be? Well, once you put your hand on the Bible and make that oath, your attention has to be with the government of the United States of America.

I am positively moved that neither Sarah nor her daughter were willing to terminate the lives of their unborn children. This is in sharp contrast to Obama’s statement that “When it comes specifically to HIV/AIDS, the most important prevention is education, which should include…which should include abstinence education and teaching children…teaching children, you know, that sex is not something casual. But it should also include - it should also include other, you know, information about contraception, because, look, I’ve got two daughters, 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.” (March, 2008)

So, one Vice Presidential candidate and her daughter demonstrate, under conditions of great stress, that babies are valued human beings, not punishment. However, that same VP candidate came forth in April of 2008 with a proclamation for “Family Child Care Week,” in which she wrote: “These professionals are positive role models for the children they care for and the communities they serve.” Clearly, Palin sees the need for positive role models. I suggest that they be Mommy and Daddy, and not the hired help.

Child-care facilities are a necessity when mothers and fathers (when they exist at all) are unwilling or incapable of caring for their offspring. Unfortunately, they have become a mainstay of the feminista mentality that nothing should stand in the way of a woman’s ambition - nothing, including her family.

Any full-time working wife and mother knows that the family takes the short end of the stick. Marriages and the welfare of children suffer when a stressed-out mother doesn’t have time to be a woman, a wife, and a hands-on Mommy.

It is sexism on two levels. First, you think that a working mother who returns to work is incapable of being a good mother. Second, you think that a father taking care of his children at home is somehow an inadequate substitute.

Look, call it what you want, but I think if you choose to have a baby you owe it to that baby to be a full-time mother for some period of time. I don't think you have to have children and I don't think a father can't be an acceptable substitute later. I also think it's an individual's decision that I don't really care about--just don't hold that up as an example of your credentials for high office and I won't comment.

Yes, I read the stuff where she was trying to have her married quietly. I think I can understand that given the circumstances. The fact is though, her daughter was going to get married before all this came up. I don't see anywhere in this that she somehow hates her daughter, or how the previous postings point out that it is weird that Bristol is holding the baby. Many families the older kids help out with raising the younger kids, especially in the more rural areas of our country where things like nannies don't play a big part.

Regarding his myspace pages, many folks will post crap on myspace that they think makes them look cool. How many fat white guys or ugly girls do you think post there and point out how beautiful they are or sell themselves to make people more likely to contact them? Levi is still a kid, in as much as he is about to become a father, and while he can make statements about not wanting kids, it appears that in pursuit of his goal he forgot to bring his own brand of protection with him... So maybe he was just talking crap? Probably.

I think after Sarah Palin's speech last night, things have radically changed on the morning talk shows. I watched a bit of MSNBC (cough cough "..in the tank for Obama...") this morning, and noticed even on Morning Joe, things were a lot more happy, and they were actually (even Tom Brokaw) noting that it is likely she will be the first woman President of the US - and it wasn't said derisively, or in any mean spirited way.... it was weird - even Chris Matthews was in on this conversation and it was like a completely different show...

We will see as time goes on, but unsourced folks with an axe to grind have just fallen a lot shorter on the totem pole in this election. IMHO.

First, Actions speak louder than words. Second, to compare Reverend Wright to Mrs. Johnston displays a warped a thought process on you part.

No - I assume this was supposed to be guilt by association. Levi's mom probably has as little to do (normally) with the Palin family as Reverend Wright did for the 20 years he was a significant influence in Obama's life. It was a point to be made in relevance, which is exactly what it was.

Mrs. Johnston had Sarah's cell phone number before Sarah was nominated, so they knew each other very well. I am quite sure the good Reverend didn't have Obama's Blackberry number.

Sarah Palin went on record to hand her daughter off to this family and expose her first grandchild to these criminals. Reverend Wright, on the other hand, spoke and commented on the dark and shameful history of this country, and Obama listened.

You seem to feel these acts are somewhat equal on the possible severity of the decisions?

Levi's mom is going to become Sarah's daughter's mother-in-law. Sarah and Sherry are going to be maternal and paternal grandmothers, respectively, to the same grandchild.

You know what's funny about all the sniping at Obama? Just like all the sniping at Clinton (and I was one of the people nitpicking him back then) none of it has anything to do with policy or substance.

At least all the criticisms against Bush (other than the remarks about him being an idiot) have to do with policy decisions, actions that took us to war, or failed to properly aid hurricane victims, or to protect our economy from a near-collapse.

Sure, back then Sarah was pleased her daughter got knocked up by the son of the town drug dealer, so pleased she wants her to marry this HS drop out and become part of his family. There is no comment from Bristol about her baby’s daddy’s unemployedness, or her future Mother in law’s home based drug altering and distribution business.

It is also unclear how Levi, without a high school diploma, jumped the line to get into this program.

My favorite mentally challenged politician is making the rounds again with her typical nonsense. She is complaining about, among other things, how Caroline Kennedy isn't being subjected to the same level of scrutiny as she was during the presidential campaign. How strange that somebody seeking an appointment to a position that is 1% of 1/2 of 1 of our 3 branches of government would be subjected to less scrutiny than the person who would be 2nd in line to the Presidency and "in charge of the Senate."
