McSame's Agressive Role for US in the world

Republican candidate John McCain is defending his staunch backing for the war in Iraq as well as an aggressive role for the U.S. around the world.

McCain told military veterans in Phoenix on Tuesday that he welcomes a debate on those topics as the fall campaign unfolds.

"America must stand firmly on the side of freedom and justice," McCain told a convention of the American Legion, a friendly audience for the former prisoner of war.

McCain contended that Democratic rival Barack Obama's high-profile speech in Berlin missed the point about the role of the United States in the world.

"He was a picture of confidence, but in some ways confidence in one's self and confidence in one's country is not the same," McCain said.

If the Democrats had a message, they did a hell of a job hiding it last night. I didn't hear anything about gas prices.

Gas prices are where they are going to be for a very long time. All cheap gas will ensure is our cintinuing dependence on foreign and domestic sources of oil.

No, this is the Obama feel good rally. This is a common problem for the Democrats, and one of the reasons they cannot get any traction on McCain. They advocate against everything that common sense says we should be doing right now, and also insist on increasing social programs at a time when we have record deficits - and just turning off the Iraq spigot will not make up the balance. Also they are pushing additional taxes on oil companies which is almost laughable, and most people who look past the emotional issue of why oil companies are making record profits also see the fact that the government makes more on a gallon of gas at the pump then the oil companies do.

Most people will support reducing tax breaks for oil companies, and McCain had a good idea for executive compensation the other day - no company that receives federal subsidies or tax incentives can compensate their executive management at a higher rate than a GS-15. I believe that was the quote - and it is an excellent idea - it may have just been for direct support like Fannie Mae or places like that, but that idea could be applied across the board. But the democrats need to come up with new ideas other than universal health care, and other ways to take from the rich to give to the poor. It can only go so far.

As far as being aggressive in the world, the pendulum will swing back all on its own. Other than Iraq, the US is no more aggressive than it was before Bush. Afghanistan was where the Taliban was, so the was a logical attack point to retaliate on 9/11 (you didn't see the Russians gripe about that, they got their butts handed to them there). Clinton went into the Balkans almost unilaterally to stop the war in Kosovo (remember the UN and Europe just sat there and lamented all the killing, and Russia was backing Serbia). Clinton shot cruise missiles into a number of places, etc.

Come up with some good ideas and America will listen. Otherwise lamenting that McCain is more of Bush is a laughable argument, and also not getting any traction. McCain is old right? Bush is still catching up to him :) I mean come on, Obama is still rehashing Brittany and Paris Hilton in response to McCain ads.... and also trying to paint McCain as out of touch with 4 houses. Again, the only people he is getting to with that argument are folks that don't think about anything beyond what their pastor or the tv tells them.

Dear RV....You have one twisted view of the world...Anyone who can say that the the Bush Administration has been no more agressive then previous administrations is nothing more then dillusional and a parrot for the right wing..military industrial complex portions of this country. 600k innocent civilians dead, thousands of young Americans dead and wounded...an expenditure that is draining our economy in unprescedented proportions! And you want to compare that with Clinton and Kosovo.
