It Happened Again do not call list

The caller Id read "unknown name" and the number read 062-294-3422.

I answered the phone. I got a recording. "Urgent, this is from YOUR credit card company and it is your final notice to lower your rates" bla blah blah
"Press 1 to be connected to a live operator"

I did as I was instructed.

A gentleman answered right away and said "Do want to lower your card rates?" He had a gruff demeanor.

I said, Yes, but first I need your company name, address and telephone number. I am on the do not call list" and his response was "yeah right!" and hung up the phone.

He spoofed his caller id (a crime for telemarkleters to do so) and he called someone on the do not call list (also a no no). Since he would not provide me with any information, shall I assume he was a scammer? I think I can.

You need to identify his schedule for calling, and learn the most likely time of the day he will call, then call the police, and they can trace it for you and investigate.

FYI, people who answer their own questions are often considered less intelligent or gay. I'd try to avoid it in the future.

Haha. The police aren't going to investigate a telemarketing call.

You might be able to file a complaint with the state attorney general's office.

Remember, you are anonymous as well. Simply because you are registered does not mean you are not anonymous. Maybe I should get you a dictionary so you can learn the difference between the two.

If you post under unregistered names on this site, you are considered anonymous. Radiophile isn't anonymous- everything he writes can be attributed to the user name "Radiophile".

According to Websters, "anonymous" means "lacking individuality, distinction, or recognizability."

Which pretty much sums up you. "Radiophile" is a recognized user. And since you login as multiple people, you're unrecognized- no one can attribute your comments to a distinguishable forum name, because you constantly change it.

It's really that simple.

Well I got the same call about 630 pm. "This is from your credit card companies and your final notice to lower your rates"... So I pressed one.

I then went through two screeners who asked if I had more than $3000 in credit card debt. I said yes.

Then a lady picked up the phone. She asked my name. Stuart Baker I said and she asked my phone number. Stuart Baker is/was the "Director of Lessons Learned" for the President and I gave the telephone number to the White House.

She asked a couple more qualifying questions. Then she asked if there was one card that I was not over the limit with or had late payments with. I said yes.

She then asked me to get the credit card and read her the 800 number off the back so she can verify this. I gave her a BS 800 number.

Then she asked for my account number. I asked it this was legitimate. She said yes. I again asked if it was legitimate. She said yes.

I asked to speak to a supervisor. I was put on hold and a lady got on said "I understand you want to transfer balances but have a question". I said Yes.

I asked her the name of her company. She said "Card Services MasterCard Visa Discover". I asked if that was the real name. She said Yes.

I then politely asked for their business address, She asked why I wanted that. I said it did not matter why I wanted it - but since I asked they were required by law to give it me."

She said it is against her company policy to provide that. I re-iterated if I ask, they required by law to give it to me. She said "Sir, no we are not" and hung up.

The caller ID read all zeros - a crime for telemarketers
She did not provide me with the address when I asked
They used an automated dialer and recorded message
I am on the do not call list.

How many other laws were broken and what should I do next time?
