Being a trashman is a young mans games, kind of like the NFL. They should be rewarded for working their lower backs off in a job no one wants.

While we certainly need teachers, I think we all can agree that they are way overvalued, selfish and somewhat of a liability to the taxpayers.

Yeah you have a point about labor and it being a rotten job no one wants but teachers usually have to put a lot of their own money into supplies for their classes, go to college for years, so much money, student loans, then to still end up being broke. Not to mention the occupational hazard of being a teacher and wondering if you'll be shot.

Education is an investment, not a guarantee- all investments are risks.

When was the last time a teacher was shot in Fairfax County, my little drama princess?

Come on be serious, working a trash truck is hard work, sitting in an elementary classroom is a just a step above babysitting.

It's not the taxpayers fault that a lot of people wanted to duck the real world of work and elbow grease and go to college.

No, we can't all agree. I don't share that viewpoint at all. I'm very grateful to the many teachers that I've had occasion to meet over the years. Many go way above and beyond. And they have to deal with parents like you.

You are a drama queen. Teachers pay is nothing new. These are well educated people, at least a 4 year degree, and yet they are not smart enough to figure out the pay scale before they take the job. Then they complain how little they make, how they have to pay for supplies, and on and on. It gets old.

Should trashmen make more than teachers? Well it is a horrible job and not many people want to do it, so maybe they should due to the laws of supply and demand. And although it is a horrible job, it is one that contributes greatly to society. Maybe we should drop the teacher appreciation day and have a garbageman appreciation day.

I always thought it would be fun to be a trashman. Fresh air, lots of traveling. You would stay thin by moving around and lifting stuff at work so you would'nt have to hit the gym. Plus you get to smash stuff and throw stuff around like you were an 8 year old breaking toys ya know.

I'm guessing there's more garbage men here than teachers. I was just making a point that it's better to become a trash man then to go to college and waste time and money and not have to worry about getting shot. I don't see how that's being dramatic when it's becoming the norm. You also made the point to call teachers molesters. But I digress.

Nobody that went to college to become a school teacher did it to become rich or even wealthy. Only after they became a teacher and busted their ass for a few years, do they realize the amount of work involved, the shitty-overbearing parents, and the bratty kids (Fairfax), that they chose the wrong career.

I have several friends who finished undergrad and became FCPS teachers, to be told they needed to get graduate degrees to advance within FCPS. They got their graduate degrees from the NoVa UVa campus and haven't gotten raises in 3 years now.

Well, just a little profound wisdom for those who surf thru.


College costs a lot, way too much. Nobody is trying to lower the cost, especially teachers.

Education is very important- institutions and establishments like public schools are not as important as education. Not even close.

If you are a student and your teacher whines about not making enough or being appreciated in even a subtle tone- tell him, her or it to STFU. Tell them you are only interested in hard facts and hard sciences, that you are neutral and are not going to advocate for them, even if you like them personally. Tell them to keep their stupid opinions out of the classroom. Let them do their own bidding for their own corrupt machine.

If you are an able bodied 28 year old man and you are teaching 8 year olds how to finger paint, you are not fulfilling your potential or you are a kid toucher. No if's and but's about it.

Trashmen have the very high risk of potential knee and back problems. I would not want to haul trash for more than a few years but gawd fucking bless you guys for getting that dumpster juice smell away from my home. You get liquor and Red Ball from me every Xmas and you know who you are.

I've got no problem with trashmen or any laborers making more than educated professionals. The notion that labor should be cheap is rather snobbish, and many highly physical jobs actually require a certain amount of brain power to do well.

However I don't understand the need some here have to bash teachers in particular. Sure there are a number that are dead weight, but the same could be said for almost any profession. Yes they get a couple of months off per year, but many of us have jobs where the demand fluctuates seasonally. (Also if teachers really are that poor, do we want our kids spending any more time with them?) I suspect most of us could no more handle teaching in our schools than we could handle working a garbage truck for 9-12 hours per day.

garbage truck drivers start at over 50k with good benny's. dealing with trash and the smell would suck but from what I understand they treat the guys well.
