It's gonna happen soon or later. Just another day in the universe.

Im glad Americans are now finally thinking about the possibility of large asteroids hitting our planet. The scientific community have large pressed this issue and because an the explosion in russia happened, now people want to pay attention. Sad. The resources and technology could have been invested a long time ago to 1.) predict with accuracy 2.) Contingency plan of deflecting the large astroid that poises a threat. Im soo sick of the powers that be being so slow to catch on to science.

It's going to happen. By the time it does, we may have wiped each other out.

The Yellowstone caldera/supervolcano will kill off the Earth before an asteroid.

"fink" read the article. The person who said that was making a point.

"NASA has found and is tracking about 95 percent of the largest objects flying near Earth, those that are .62 miles or larger in diameter. In addition to stepping up its monitoring efforts and building international partnerships, NASA is looking at developing technologies to divert an object that may be on a collision course with Earth."

So yeah, they are actually [kinda] doing stuff. Do not be led astray by headlines!

Tracking is great but there are currently no countermeasures to intercept one. You might as well track the moon. Read about the The Tunguska event, a 330 ft diameter astroid leveled 800 sq miles. The Astroid last month in Russia that was estimated to be 20-60 feet in diameter had 20–30 times more energy than was released from the atomic bombs detonated at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Im worried about the small ones myself.
