Believe it or not, the country can focus on more than one issue at a time. The reason that this issue is receiving so much media coverage is that this is one of the most important Supreme Court decisions ever for the gay community, who represent about 10% of the population.

Here is an idea to solve everyones problems with marriage. The government can just get out of the business of approving marriage licenses. Why should anyone have to petition the government for what is actually a religious ceremoney. Instead if you want to marry someone do it by whatever ceremony you deem acceptable. Then sign a contract for a civil union. No more special tax breaks for being married either. Everyone equal everyone pay the same. Nice and legal and no ones feelings are hurt.
