Arguing that gay relationships “destabilize” society, Santorum wouldn’t offer any legal protections to gay relationships and has pledged to annul all same-sex marriages if elected president. During his 99-country tour of Iowa, Santorum frequently compared same-sex relationships to inanimate objects like trees, basketballs, beer, and paper towels and even tried to blame the economic crisis on gay people. As Santorum explained back in August, religious people have a constitutional right to discriminate against gays: “We have a right the Constitution of religious liberty but now the courts have created a super-right that’s above a right that’s actually in the Constitution, and that’s of sexual liberty. And I think that’s a wrong, that’s a destructive element.”

Nah, Rick will use the acceptance of gay marriage to his advantage.
You have to realize he's playing up to a certain crowd that he belives will propell his political career.
Gay unions, legal or not makes no difference. If its legalized he still gets to talk about it to placate his narrow minded followers.

I was watching some of the coverage today, and it's amazing the way news shows just throw shit at the wall to see what sticks. There was an endless parade of stupid on EVERY CHANNEL.
The right wing channels had some fat uggo talking about how every child deserves a mom and dad. Does that mean one straight parent is better equipped to raise a child than two gay parents?
The left wing channels had one unattractive woman say, "This is the first time in the history of the nation that gay marriage has been brought to the Supreme Court. It's great." Considering that black people, as a race, were only integrated into society as equals about 50 years ago (and about 20 years after Japanese Americans were thrown into concentration camps), this isn't some historical civil rights victory.
It's gay marriage. A lot of people are against it because they think gay sex is icky (and it is), but why does anyone give a shit if one dude wants another dude to inherit his Hummel collection when he dies? Hell yeah, let's allow gay couple to adopt kids so they can escape a broken foster system and grow up in a stable environment. And if gay marriage leads to some dude being legally allowed to marry his couch, GOOD. The kind of guy that would marry his couch is the kind of guy you want staying home with his wife.

The odd thing, to me, about all this is that with all the hate, violence, war, murder and the bizarre weather issues in the world, people seem the most upset about 2 guys or 2 girls in love with each other. You'd think they were doing something horribly wrong that could lead to thousands of deaths or something.
In the end (no pun intended), it's just 2 people in love and want to have the same legal rights as anyone else. Some of these people were forced to break all ties with their bigoted families when they came out. When they die, instead of leaving what they have to their partner, the dopey family members who banished them get it all.
If you go back in time to the civil rights era, the same thing was happening. It was all over the news 24/7 and people were getting sick of it. But this is also how people wake up to reality and rationality. In 10 years, we'll look back in complete embarrassment that this issue took so long to get past.
In the end (no pun intended), it's just 2 people in love and want to have the same legal rights as anyone else.
