Nothing surprises me about kids anymore. Gallon smashing? Everything else they do? And these are the people who will run our country one day. Pray for death before it happens.

On the heels of this crisis, New York City's Mayor Bloomberg has enacted emergency legislation requiring everyone within the city limits under the age of 18 to drink 8 ounces of water every hour from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

I stand corrected all of this sounds like a blast!

The signs and symptoms of dehydration range from minor to severe and include:

Increased thirst Dry mouth and swollen tongue Weakness Dizziness Palpitations (feeling that the heart is jumping or pounding) Confusion Sluggishness fainting Fainting Inability to sweat Decreased urine output

Take the person to the hospital's emergency department if these situations occur:

Fever higher than 103°F Confusion Sluggishness (lethargy) Headache Seizures Difficulty breathing Chest or abdominal pains Fainting No urine in the last 12 hours

Increased or constant vomiting for more than a day Fever over 101°F Diarrhea for more than 2 days Weight loss Decreased urine production Confusion Weakness

/sarcasm

Seriously! WTF!

I accidently got high last night? Had my heat on since it was a bit chilly, woke up and it was warm, ended up being slightly dehydrated and it is not a pleasant feeling whatsoever. My stomach hurt, head hurt, so dizzy, eyes hurt. I'm hoping this is a joke because I don't understand how anyone could purposely do that to themselves.

Last year kids were drinking gallons of water at a time to get "high"

Now they are dehydrating themselves?

Weird.

Mt. climber here - got stuck on a Mt. top w/ 5 day storm. 5 days with about 6 oz water a day and no food at 15000 feet elevation. I was definitely dreaming in Technicolor but not much impairment when awake...

Precursory evidence that Stabitha is a pedophile.
A self-confession.

Where were you? Not in this country, obviously.

I got dehydrated on a job once, walking through the Utah desert. Our truck (with the huge ice chest inside) hove into sight about 500 yards away and I remember thinking 'How the hell am I supposed to get there?' This was across flat level ground at this point. I staggered on and a couple of drinks later I was right as rain, but at no point was this fun or 'high', just loopy.

What color was your urine?

>What color was your urine?

I honestly don't remember - it was the heat as much as dehydration but it wasn't a long-term thing, just a couple of hours. Until I got a bit of water in me I didn't even realize how loopy I'd just been.

It was times like these that gave me desert smarts - now when I take people out, I tell them 'if you haven't whizzed in a while, keep drinking till you do'. Amazing how quickly things can get bad in the desert.

But.... water, alone, won't save a dehydrated person in the desert or anywhere, as I'm sure you know.

It will for a good long while. Keep up on water and you should be able to stay alive until you starve, which should take weeks. We're talking a pretty goodly amount of water though, gallons a day preferably. You'll sweat like crazy but you won't realize it - places I've been will dry a pair of blue jeans from dripping in about half an hour.

You gotta be pretty far gone to require that stuff but I carry it in Africa for the odd dehydrated baby. Saved a couple with it, although more with the EMT's prescription: 'Apply diesel'.

Umm... what kind of storm was this? Dust storm?

I now that changing snow or rain into water smacks of of science but really try to use theories developed in the later half of the stone age.
