Anthrax Killer Commits Suicide?

So the FBI was preparing to arrest this scientist at Ft. Detrick for the 2001 Anthrax attacks and he kills himself. Sad thing is, he was the guy who was helping the FBI with the investigation in 2001 and 2002. If he did it, he was under their noses the entire time and they dragged poor Steven Hatfill through the mud over it...

I wouldn't want to go through what Hatfill did, but I think in the end he was fairly compensated. Something like $3mil up from and $150k a year for life.

They destroyed his reputation and ability to work in his field, but even now if you asked a guy on the street who Hatfill was they wouldn't know, remember, or care.

I think he has been fairly compensated (I believe he got $6 million from Justice and could be seeing even more from the NY Times). However, his reputation is destroyed in the field he worked in.

It's a pretty disconcerting that it has taken DOJ close to 7 years to bring charges in this case.

They didn't make progress in the case until Mueller replaced the person in charge of the investigation in 2006. Unfortunately I think it is pretty common in these kinds of investigations for the authorities to settle on "a person of interest" and ignore all the evidence that doesn't support the case against that individual. It happened with Richard Jewell and the parents of Jon Benet Ramsey.
