Anyone here had it? Like it, hate it? I don't know how safe it is these days being that it is eaten raw.

Never tried it personally. I wouldnt these days, either unless I knew exactly where it came from.

My grown son loves it. But just watching him eat it makes me sick to my stomach. Guess some poeple love it. Like you, I would be afraid I would get sick!

It has to be fresh beef, ground may times with a freshly squeezed lemon on top. I saw it on "Batman vs Dracula".

If fresh and prepared correctly, it is excellent. If not, deadly.

I used to eat raw meatloaf when I was a kid. Loved it! Don't know why I never got sick. The thought of eating raw meat now makes me gag - meatloaf or tartare.

496 is correct; it is terrific if prepared well. I had it in France with diced onion and a raw egg mixed in. That said, I doubt I would try it these days with all the mad cow and salmonella outbreaks. Too risky....

I can recommend it at Bistro Vivant in McLean. Fresh with a classic preparation. Goes well with a medium red like a Cote de Beaune.
