Personally I think Islam has been grossly maligned in our society. At the same time, as a Muslim yourself, how is Christianity portrayed in countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran?

I believe muslims, as a whole, believe far more strongly in their quran than christians do in the bible.
Why? Because most christians had the good fortune to grow up in a mostly secular, and forward thinking country with some prospect of a future.

Up until now, you have had the Executive Branch, without any kind of process, declaring people "enemy combatants" in an effort to avoid using the Geneva Convention. Were all of these people "enemy combatants" in the first place? When the U.S. military offers a bounty to warlords in Afghanistan to turn in members of the Taliban, how hard would it be for these warlords, many of whom are financed by the drug trade, to turn in some farmer who didn't want his land used to grow the warlord's poppies? Or a rival from another clan that has been at odds with the warlord's family for generations but who had nothing to do with the Taliban?

I'm not talking about Gitmo. Gitmo is an absolute disgrace and I hate the fact that there are prisoners who were sold for ransoms as you speak of. I also understand a neeed to put a game face on during a crisis situation and Gitmo is nothing new compared to POW camps in the past and the prisomners there have a different status within the Geneva Convention, (which Al Qaeda and the Taliban are no signitaries). Frankin D Roosevelt jailed over 100,000 Japanese men, women and children for the "crime" of being Japanese. How would we know which group it was? They are not affiliated with any one country that we could retaliate against. This is by design for that very reason.

What about the Hutto children immigration prison in Texas? It's run by CCA, which runs private jails throughout the country. They have supposedly cleaned up their act there, but they are still holding families and their children while awaiting adjudication of their asylum cases or deportation to all nations (other than Mexico). Conditions at first were horrible, since the children were being treated like adult prisoners; their only crime was being the children of adults here illegally, or awaiting ajudication of their asylum case.

THere are some ignorant people that hold bias against ALL muslims.What they don't understand is many are born into the religion like many AMericans are "born" into Christianity. THough we may not practice that said religion, we may feel a traditional bond to it. Most of the Muslims in the D.C area are alright, the fanatics can be spotted by long beards, long white shirts, sandals (easy removal for prayer) and women walking several feet behind in headscarves/burqas.

As much as Sept11 p***D me off, I do have respect for even some of the devout ones as their faith requires great discipline and piety. BUT I do not think America owes ANYBODY a welcome home as we have our own traditions and mores and I think nothing should be done to accomodate the religious beliefs of a group that is clearly here only for economic opportunity. I don't want to "change Islam", Islam is a world religion and does deserve respect.
