Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I think that we are unneccesarily cruel to the fat and obese. However, I have also seen how a ten lb weight loss (within supposedly healthy weight levels) can improve things like cholesterol levels. Everyone is different but that doesn't mean we should support those that insist upon maintaining a ridiculously unhealthy weight.
My problem with fatties is I pay the same health care premium as they do. Yet I only visit a doctor for normal checkups while they have a boat load of pills for diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol. Health insurance should be like car insurance, you take care of yourself you pay less. You eat like a pig you pay more. Its like me paying the same car insurance as some guy with five DUIS on his record, not fair.
And dont give me that its in my genes. You cannot gain five pounds eating half a pound of food no matter what it is.

By that reasoning, people who smoke, drink alcohol,or fuck without condoms (aids) should pay more also

No, I don't think you read my post very carefully. There is nothing cruel about stating that obesity is associated with a slew of health problems. There is nothing cruel about thinking that a 400 lb woman is unattractive. Cruelty would be insulting or harassing the woman. I can disagree with your choices and still treat you with respect.

I would but that is harder to regulate. The problems that are self imposed like obesity, cig smoking and boozing I should not be paying for. Those are lifestyle choices. Currently there is no incentive to stay in shape other than having pride in yourself and being responsible to your kids to be around for a few years.

If my theoretical 400 lb friend tells me she is happy the way she is and has no plans to lose weight, I am not going to respond "Good for you; you are perfect the way you are." I'd be doing her a disfavor.

Oh, OK...... my mistake.
I thought you meant, WE, as a society, shouldn't be "supporting" them, as in, financially, to pay for their increased medical costs.

Gotcha... No, I think that everyone should have access to affordable medical care.
