I would go a step further and recommend the movie Halloween. If you find that the shooter has discovered your hiding place is in the coatroom or closet, quickly grab a wire hanger and fashion it into a weapon.

About as effective as those old films telling you to hide under your desk in the event of nuclear attack.

Some criminals ambush a guy and that demonstrates what?

Carrying a gun isn't some kind of impenetrable force field and nobody suggests that it is.
