Congress is pissed? Members of both parties are asking if the DOJ overstepped it's authority.

Lawmakers slam DOJ prosecution of Swartz as 'ridiculous, absurd'

Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) said the government's handling of the case was “pretty outrageous.”

“Prosecutors shouldn't have the kind of discretion to seek absurd penalties for minor crimes,” Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) said.

Aaron Swartz was killed by having a messed up brain.

Truly - the guy's parents are apparently sufficiently wealthy that he was "chaperoned" each time he went overseas. Not sure what "each time" means. It reads like he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and was never allowed to develop on his own. Jumping to almost-totally-unfounded conclusions I'd bet he was never allowed to get down in the dirt outside and play around, sticking sticks and firty fingers in his mouth and building up an immunity to all that can negatively affect him and that "protection" continued til his suicide.

When he was personally called out for his alleged major criminal acts he had no parental protection, though his attorney and the "fines" part probably would have been paid for him.

The Media is having a field day with this one - the guy is being called a "genius", internet pioneer, etc ad nauseum.

"Major criminal acts?" Seriously? lol

C'mon... He hacked into jstor and downloaded a bunch of published papers from trade journals that they charge a small fee to view, not some classified information.

I don't discount his own failings but hardly any major criminal act. Even people in the industry were saying that Justice was going overboard.
