With temps this low there is going to be a huge increase of the use of space heaters. Please be careful everyone and review the space heater tips posted earlier in this thread.

when I get up in the morning during the winter the first thing I do is plug in a space heater in my bathroom, turn it on high and close the bathroom door. By the time I am ready to go in there to shave-shit-shower it is like 95 degrees in there, so nice!

I lived with a heat pump for a few years and it was ok but I now love my propane furnace. Everybody should have a couple space heaters for emergency backup.

It's a nice toasty 77 degrees in my room by my digital thermometer on my wall- and I am saving on my electric bill by not turning on the house heat yet (heat pump) as I am only chilling in my room today.


It's a brand new one I got from walmart- only $25 and it can warm the room up to 90 if i set it on high, but low works perfect for me. I have a hoodie and sweatpants and socks on and am perfect. I am one of those who gets cold when it gets below 60 degrees..

OH NO!


A Pratt County man has died after a space heater caught fire in his camper.

The Wichita Eagle reports that the 68-year-old man was the sole occupant of the approximately 8-by-12 or -14 feet camper, located about five miles south of Pratt and about 10 and a half miles to the west.

Sheriff Vernon Chinn says he received the call about the fatal fire around 9:15 p.m. Thursday. The Cullison Fire Department, Pratt County Emergency Services and the Pratt County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the camper, which was fully engulfed in flame when they arrived.

The man’s body was found in the residence after the fire was extinguished. His identity hasn’t been released pending notification of family members.

This is the first ever space heater alert in the month of May! Many apartment and condo buildings have shut down their boilers for the summer. Because of temperatures below 40 degrees there will be thousands of space heaters used tonight.

PLEASE be careful and check on older folks who could be in danger.

Well folks, it's that time of year again. This would be a good time to cut the cords on any space heaters you may have that are more than 5 years old. Cut the cord and smash the old heaters with a hammer so the heater cannot kill anyone. Go buy some new space heaters and be sure they have the "UL" listing!

In fact, the author of this thread is absolutely right. Every year a huge number of fires and accidents occur because of heaters. There are two main causes: the fault of the person who covered the heater with a blanket, for example, or the malfunction of the heater.
The way I see it, if you want your heater to last you a long time, you should only buy the best ones at https://www.ukplanettools.co.uk/heating/
They are not very expensive, but they are incredibly reliable and will last you a long time.
