AP is really reaching
Posted by: I blame Bush again ()

This year's shopping season was marred by bad weather and rising uncertainty about the economy in the face of possible tax hikes and spending cuts early next year. Some analysts say the massacre of schoolchildren in Newtown, Conn., earlier this month may also have chipped away at shoppers' enthusiasm.

Are you for real, the shooting in Newtown caused less Christmas shopping? I hope they are not saying because there are 26 less customers. How about a shitty economy headed by Obobo being the reason?

Every year, the stupid reports on the local news stations come on and tout the Christmas shopping traffic. Even when the parking lots are mostly empty like Monday on Christmas Eve at 7 pm, the idiots have to say the parking lots are full and come down on to beat the traffic.

booties to warm your feet, just slap them into the microwave oven first. Just what I always wanted, to use a microwave oven after someones shoes have been in it.

All they need is to come out with Hot Boobies which would be a dual-use must-have for any dad with an infant son.

I bought almost everything (90+%) online this year. Guess it must have been the bad economy.

Huh? Wait!...

Almost every year, the news reports that sales and turnout are lower than the previous year and it's going to be "one of the worst holiday seasons in a long time". Really? It's been teh same old song and dance for as long as I can remember.

It's all a lot of crap the media has to feed us because we have an economy based on consuming, not producing.

Same applies to online sales:

"Online sales, typically a bright spot, grew only 8.4 percent from Oct. 28 through Saturday, according to SpendingPulse. That's a dramatic slowdown from the online sales growth of 15 to 17 percent seen in the prior 18-month period, according to the data service."

Ours are down a bunch this season. Tailed off starting shortly after the election. Picked up a little over Black Friday but then did squat. Have to see between now and the 1st but don't expect much.

There are lies, damned lies, and statistics:

>>> "...One bright spot has been online sales, which continue to grow at
>>> a faster pace.
>>>
>>> On Christmas Day, online sales jumped 22.4 percent, outpacing the 16.4
>>> percent increase in 2011, according to IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark, which
>>> tracks more than 1 million e-commerce transactions a day from 500 U.S.
>>> retailers..."

Reading is fundamental...

That's a largely pointless stat for ONE DAY (Christmas Day), not for the SEASON as are the numbers reported by SpendingPulse.

Doh!

Meanwhile as I'd said above:

"Online sales, typically a bright spot, grew only 8.4 percent from Oct. 28 through Saturday, according to SpendingPulse. That's a dramatic slowdown from the online sales growth of 15 to 17 percent seen in the prior 18-month period, according to the data service."

Online is also borderless. They don't break out how much of the sales originate in the US.

I saw a very funny tv report tonight. They were promoting made in america (MIA) products for christmas purchase. If one looks closer at the MIA stickers on the products, it indicates that the parts are imported.

High unemployment rate, probably 20% of those employed living in fear of losing their jobs..........

Good thing we voted to keep the architect of our current woes in office so he can move us "forward".

Not up mind you...just forward.
