Obviously they spent a lot of money remodeling their broadcast studio, and were very impressed with glass walls and flashy lights.

They probably think it is as impressive to radio listeners as it is to the people who see it in person. I imagine the WTOP on-air personalities are people who are enamored by flashing lights and bright colors.
