Gay bar by Mistake
Posted by: Lewis ()
Date: July 09, 2008 08:31AM

I went to this Gay Bar in Dupont circle by mistake. I didnt' know until I ordered my drink and I look around and see bunch of Guys all over the place. I first thought it was just the happy hour thing, but then I see two guys on the corner touching each other in the butt. I was freaked out, I paid my tap and run the hell out. I dropped my wallet, but kicked it all the way to the door. Damn.

LOL!!!"Touching each other IN the butt"...WTF???? That makes you sound gay as shit! You should have known, considering it was DUPONT CIRCLE!!!! Are you sure, subconciously, you just wanted to test the waters, and got freaked out? If I were there alone, there is no way I would stay to order a drink in a bar with all dudes, especially in DUPONT CIRCLE, of all places! I don't know what kind of happy hours you go to, but I've never been to one w/ all dudes!!! 'Kicking your wallet all the way to the door', leads me to believe you are an extreme homophobe; a group who almost always end up having sexuality issues themselves!
Plus, why did you feel the need to come post this shit here? Did you need to reaffirm your sexuality, or reassure yourself that you are not gay? News flash! Guys who are sure about there sexuality don't need to do that shit!!LOL

While there still is that contingency there to be sure, the gentrification of dupont circle has caused it to become yuppieville alabeit some gay yuppies.

Buffalo Billards and Front Page are/were mere feet from the circle and are legendary "not gay" bars filled with young heterosexuals with raging hormones.

And the Lucky Bar a block and a half away is also constantly packed. For the Eurotrash experiance - check out Setso Sesto (or something like that), accross the street from Lucky Bar.

These places are always changing names though...

Federal Triangle is below Pennsylvania Avenue, not near Front Page or Buffalo Billiards. I always considered that neighborhood that Radiophile mentioned to be DuPont, or just "downtown". It's probably 20 blocks away from Fed Triangle.

I have friends that live down NH Ave toward Washington Circle, and they call their neighborhood "The West End". It don't remember folks calling it that 15 years ago, but it seems like it has become a more common name for the neighborhood. Sorta like around M St. in btwn Dowtown proper and G'town.

Buffalo Billiards is on top of the DuPont circle Metro Station. The Front Page is nearly a block away from the circle itself.

I said the other two place are a block and a half away. Sorry if misrepresented the neighborhood boundaries, but there are no (legal) bars inside the circle itself.

Reminds me of the time someone was bitching about their car being towed and I responded with what the rules in Fairfax County are. Another poster replied I did not know what I was talking because in Loudon Country it is different.

Washington Geography

It's been the West End for ages. There was a movie theatre down the street from CQ called The West End Cinema that was there since the sixties. Since the Riz moved in, the boundaries for the West End have been expanded. As for the "Federal Trangle" comment, I think th idiot was refering to The "Golden Triangle" Business improvement district, which runs 42 blocks from the White House to Dupont Circle and 16th Street, NW to 21st Street, NW.

There are not many Federal Agencies in the Golden Triangle, it is mostly private businesses, retail, offices, and some residential. Connecticut ave, between the circle and Rhode Island/M Sts is considered by Washingtonians "Dupount Circle." After M St. it is "Downtown." Mass Ave right above the circle is "Embassy Row," moving into "Sheridan."

My g/f back in the mid-90s lived near the corner of 23rd and M, and I never remember hearing residents using the term "The West End". It was always "downtown", "near Georgetown" or "near Foggy Bottom". And when I lived in Adams-Morgan shortly thereafter, I don't remember hearing "The West End" used to describe that neighborhood either. But, a few years ago some other friends moved there and I began hearing the West End term used to describe the neighborhood. So, while the maps you are looking at probably have "West End" printed on them, it's only been about the past 5-10 years that I've noticed the people who live there call it that term with some distinction.

If you told people in 1995 that you lived in Dupont or Adams-Morgan, most people recognized the term and knew where you meant. That was not the case in those days if you said "I live in the West End". That has (and is) slowly changing. More and more people are using that term for that neighborhood over the past few years.

The West End is so named because it was the westernmost part of the original Pierre L'Enfant plan for the city of Washington, before the annexation of Georgetown.

They've had a branch of the DC Library called the "West End" Branch since the 1930's. The West End has long been defined by the fact that it had been a historically African American neighborhood, and was not enveloped into any of the adjacent, more prominent neighborhoods like Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, and Georgetown. That being said, with the development of the Washington Metro rail system, the West End is now incorrectly most often spoken of as being part of the Foggy Bottom neighborhood. It is not, Foggy Bottom is below Washington Circle, and closer to the river.

Therefore, you are wrong; the name "the West End" has been used for ages, but since the Metro doesn't stop there, the neighborhood to many has been ignorantly lumped into Foggy Bottom.

Yeah, This idiot criticized me for implying that something is not in the Dupont Circle neighborhoood becase it is 2 blocks away. Yet uses his excuse that he confused it with a 42 block business improvement district.

You are a moron. Call any real estate person in DC and say you are looking for a place in the Golden Triangle. Guaranteed "Huh" will be their response.

And yes, there are condos and houses in the "Golden Triangle" area

So what you are telling me is that Lucky Bar area would not be best described as about 2 blocks from a major Washington DC landmark, but as in a 42 block Business Ipmprovement District that includes 3 Metro stops?

http://www.gtbid.com/gtriangle/bid_map.htm

Also, Shockingly, the Dupont Circle metro stop itself is in the "Golden Triangle".

So immediately contact the owners of those establishments and tell them that since Dupont Circle is "in" the Golden Triangle" area, their description should read "in the 'Golden Triangle' area just south of the "Golden Triangle" area".

The problem here is simple; misinformation on Fairfaxunderground. First we had a guy state Federal Triangle was below DuPont Circle. Second, we had someone state that since he had not heard a neighborhood referred to as "the West End" until recently, it is a new name. It is not. I gave a summary of why "the West End" is not a new name, and I got an argument. So I did a wicki and it was all there; I confirmed the sources as legit, added a little on my own, and posted to end the argument. Then I get attacked for using Wicki. Then I am asked to name people that live there, even after I posted two old landmarks in the area, CQ and the West End Cinema. How about this; US News & World Report used to be in The West End on N St., there is/was a Park Sheraton there, and the old DC Hospital for Woman was there.

Do you believe AU Park is "upper Georgetown" or Tenleytown?"

Second, I posted someone was confusing Federal Triangle complex with The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District, and I get an apology, but still the argument of two blocks off DuPont Circle is not the DuPont Circle neighborhood. WTF?

Now, in the aftermath of the tinted windows melee, let us now go back to looking at if tinted windows are good after a child died in a parked car with tinted windows. If the windows weren't tinted, could others in the parking lot have seen a trapped child in the car and do something about it, possibly saving the child's life?

If not to me, individually or as part of the FU community, who did you "apologize" to when you stated clearly that you had "apologized" for your mistake?

FYI, I clarified Golden Triangle Business Improvement District. Meep only stated Federal Triangle was wrong.

That was in reference to me writing "my bad" to Meep! That was not intended for you. You give yourself way too much credit! Meeper merits an apology. You deserve a slap on the side of the head!!!

Inky boy!!!!!!!

Let us look at YOUR original statement. you said

"That area is called [Golden] Triangle and is not considered part of Dupont Circle."

Ok, you claim THAT is what you MEANT to say. Fine, lets go with that statement YOU SAY YOU MEANT.

So if YOUR statement were true, Since the Golden Triangle encompasses about 25% of Dupont Circle itself - then 25% of Dupont Circle would not be considered part of Dupont Circle but would be considered the Golden Triangle, right?

Moral of the story, don't go to gay bars around the Dupont three quarters of a circle area.

Shower comment taken out of the equation, Yes actually, lots of pretty women there. I met a very beautiful woman there - at what is now the lucky bar - and married her. 8 years later she is still beautiful and we are still married.
