Over 20 killed. Mostly children and adults...unreal. One entire class, killed.

Republican answer:

If only more parents would be responsible and send their eight year olds to school packing heat.

The answer is less regulations. More handguns on the street with bigger clips and deadlier ammo. We need gunsmithing and shooting lessons in our public school and we need to raise the eligible age for Medicare to pay for it.

This response does not address why this is political (at least to me). What does bomb drills from the 1960's have to do with politics? This is like republicans blaming democrats when illegal aliens commit crimes. In almost all cases of crimes, it is the perpetrator that is to blame, not politics.

So you agree that democrats are to blame for every crime comitted by an illegal alien because they are the party that ensures there is no crack down on shutting down the border? First, it was reported that the shooter was a father. Now it is reported that he is a 20 y.o male. So unless he has his child when he was 14, doubt it was a dad. Nothing on his nationality or skin color as far as I've seen yet. Have you heard/read something?

Your first statement is incorrect. Guns are made for more than just killing people. They are made for hunting, target shooting, starting races and several other reasons.

I'm not sure what the point of your post is. Anyone making the point that any reasonable person wanted this to happen or that one party or the other is to blame for this is a partisan loon. Pointing out the inconsistencies of that arguement by using examples is not that hard.

I didn't say it was a main reason. Perhaps you might want to reread your post (the one where you write that guns are made for one purpose and then reread my response regarding more than just one purpose. I don't know if this is a dramatic increase, but one thing for sure is that this country is broken. And threads with divisive POV's like the OP's in this one do nothing but exacerbate the problems we have.

A little in accurate. Son had weird rants on his page about Romney and even a Romney hat. Seems like there was a huge difference in a opinion in the family.

I'm going to guess the kid had mental issues or used drugs. He was also wearing body armor so wonder if SWAT was able to take him out.

This is incorrect. Jared Lee Loughner appears to be a mentally ill pot-head who hated the US government, religion and authority. A dangerous combination when armed. He was either apolitical (according to some friends) or as some friends described him, a "radical liberal".

Twenty-seven people, including 18 children, have been killed in a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Another person was found dead at 36 Yogananda St. in Newtown, sources told The Courant.

The Associated Press, citing a law enforcement official, identified the shooter as Ryan Lanza and said his younger brother is being held for questioning as a possible second shooter.

The law enforcement official said the boys' mother, Nancy Lanza, works at the school as a teacher. She is among the dead, an official said.

The official also said Ryan Lanza's girlfriend and another friend are missing in New Jersey.

Public records show that Ryan Lanza lived at 36 Yogananda St. at one point, and he is also listed as living at 1313 Grand St. in Hoboken, N.J. Police are searching that residence as well, sources say.

The problem is not the guns, it is the debasing of our society. FFXU provides ample examples of divisive, crass, hateful, anti-social, angry and/or mentally ill folks. I'd like to believe that, when not sitting behind their computers, these people are normal, compassionate, likeable human beings. But one has to wonder what kind of person gets enjoyment out of posts like the OP's.
